From a press release:

“Atlas Brew Works, the District’s newest production craft brewery, today announced an additional offering in its Tasting Room: Pints!

“We are excited to now offer our guests a pint of Atlas beer which they can enjoy in the brewery!” said Atlas CEO Justin Cox, “We’re glad the DC Council took notice of a need in our brewing community and worked with us to find a solution.”

Previously, production breweries in the District of Columbia could only offer tasting flights totaling no more than twelve ounces per visit. The new law allows patrons who stop in for a tasting and tour to also enjoy Atlas beers on premise at the brewery. “It’s great to allow our visitors to enjoy the beer in an appropriate serving quantity,” said Head Brewer Will Durgin. Growler fills and bottles will remain available at the brewery for consumption off-premises.

Atlas Brew Works will extend its tasting room hours to open Friday 5-8pm, Saturday 1-8pm, and Sunday 1-5pm opening for its first Friday Happy Hour this Friday, July 25th. 2052 West Virginia Avenue NE Suite 102

Founded by Justin Cox and award winning professional brewer Will Durgin, Atlas Brew Works is located in the Ivy City neighborhood of Northeast DC. Atlas offers its signature fresh, local beers Rowdy and District Common as well as rotating seasonals to thirsty Washingtonians in taverns and restaurants across the District.”

Sauf Haus Bier Hall, located at the corner of Jefferson and Connecticut Avenues in Dupont, will officially open on Thursday, July 24, 2014. The upscale tavern features a 2000 square foot patio and two floors with full bars and event space.

Sauf Haus’s bar program will also include specially designed cocktails, inspired by German influences. Focusing on simplicity and authenticity, the menu will include Bavarian style pretzels and Bratwursts, Frankfurters and Oysters starting in August.

From a press release:

WHAT: The third installment of DC’s monstrous beer festival is returning to Yards Park this year. Snallygaster, named for the fearsome and toothy mythical beast said to terrorize the region at the turn of the century, is a beer festival that unleashes the most sought after selection of beers and benefits Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture. This year, Snallygaster is once again setting new heights tapping no fewer than 250 unique craft beers against a backdrop of fine foods from the area’s top toques and food trucks, music, entertainment, games, family-fun and more.

Beer Director Greg Engert, the man behind the beer programs at Bluejacket, Birch & Barley, ChurchKey, GBD, Rustico and more, will of course be curating the beer list once again for Snallygaster III, and each of his nearly 250 picks will be announced as we approach the big event. Guests can expect a sea of the scarcest and most delicious ales and lagers on draft, including a growing number of breweries and brews rarely–if ever–available in the District, all sourced from from the very best local, domestic and international craft breweries. In addition, we will feature an exciting array of autumn seasonals, German style and German-inspired beers, a huge collection of cask ales, assorted barrel-aged brews, craft cans, Franconian gravity-poured/rubber-clad kegs, brand-new Bluejacket small batch releases, and even an artisanal cider garden.

From ABRA:

“A new permit is now available to District breweries that will for the first time allow customers to purchase and drink the brewery’s beer while visiting the facility. The new law is a provision of the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Support Emergency Act of 2014 (page 27) that took effect today.

Under the Manufacturer Tasting Permit Emergency Amendment Act of 2014, a brewery can apply for an on-site sales and consumption permit with the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA). The permit would allow for customers to purchase and consume beer—brewed at the brewery— while on the licensed premises from 1-9 p.m., seven days a week. The annual fee for the permit is $1,000. ABRA is now accepting and processing permit applications.

Any manufacturer that does not want to apply is not required to do so. A brewery would still need to obtain a tasting permit in order to provide samples of beer to customers at no cost even if they have an on-site sales and consumption permit.”
