From a press release:

“Fans have traveled far and wide for experimental and barrel-aged beers from The Bruery since the independent craft brewery opened its doors in Orange County in 2008. From homebrewing roots and an unassuming corner unit in a business complex that housed the company’s first brewhouse and Tasting Room, the company has methodically grown its footprint and capabilities. This includes the build out of three distinct brands – The Bruery, Bruery Terreux and Offshoot Beer Co. – in addition to state-of-the-art enhancements in brewing and production, expansion into new markets and opening a second Tasting Room at the sour & wild Bruery Terreux facility.

The company has a reputation for pushing boundaries, such as creating a new category for bourbon barrel-aged imperial stouts, one that hovers around 20% ABV, and Society membership programs for fans to connect with their favorite breweries on an even deeper level. But there is one thing that the company has never been bold enough to attempt: establishing a brick-and-mortar presence east of the Mississippi. That is, until now.

This fall, The Bruery is branching out and bringing beer directly to the East Coast by opening a premier retail store that’s within driving distance for thousands of fans of independent craft beer. Located in the heart of one of Washington, D.C.’s most exciting urban villages, The Bruery Store at Union Market District will provide easy access for Society members to pickup online purchases, along with onsite bottle and can sales, rotating taps for growler fills, merchandise and gifts for the general public. From a press release:

“Before prohibition, American lagers were flavorful, big beers that incorporated hearty ingredients like flaked maize that contributed a pleasant “grain-like” sweetness to the finished beer – something that’s typically missing in today’s mass-produced American lagers.

Once again this year, DC Brau has revived its Heurich’s Lager, a nod to Chr. Heurich Brewing Co.’s original recipe crafted with Michael Stein, Joshua Hubner and Peter Jones of Lost Lagers. (more…)

“Canteen, NRG’s roving summer beer garden, will return this Friday, June 9th.

This summer, it’s home will be at 9th & U streets in Shaw, where it’ll run Thursdays-Sundays for eight weeks. As you know, Canteen was stationed at 2100 M Street serving the Golden Triangle community last year. We’re excited to bring the beer garden to 1923 9th street NW in Shaw, and make it bigger and better with 20 beer drafts (twice as many as last year) as well as two additional handles dedicated to ciders, a selection of summer sipping wines (white and rosé, naturally), and the infamous bourbon slushy will return.

Last year at 2100 M Street, NW

Guests can expect the very best craft beers sourced locally, nationally, and from overseas. We will be pouring classic German-style lagers, like Mahrs Bräu Kellerbier Ungespundet Hefetrüb; bone-dry Belgian ales, including De Ranke Simplex and De la Senne Taras Boulba; outstanding local hop-driven offerings, The Veil’s Sitdwn and BHUMBL among them, not to mention a fresh, rare keg of Double Dry-Hopped Sungazer, from Charles Towne Fermentory in South Carolina; and some delicious sours, like Grimm Cube: Cuvee #4, J.Wakefield Stush, and Upland Cursed Kettles.
