“Dear PoPville,

I’m looking for a bar or restaurant in DC proper where I can host an event (about 20-30 people) in the next few weeks. Ideally, this place would have covered outdoor space but we are open to other options and willing to be flexible. The main thing is that we do not want to be charged a rental fee for the use of the space or have a bar minimum. Understandably, I may be hunting for a unicorn but figured it was worth asking the community in the event they knew of a business that we could support and that would love to host us.”

From the Bull Bar & Grill (planning on opening by the end of this month):

“Giving the community a place to feel at home continues to be tradition to the Cruz family lead by Maria who started her entrepreneurial journey in 1980’s NW Washington DC on 14th street in the Columbia Heights Neighborhood. Opening “Tienda La Union” then soon “Salon de Belleza”, Maria’s businesses did more than provide needed services; it was also representation for a community migrating to the district from Central-America, especially from her home of El Salvador. Years later, blessed by her success, “La Libertad” a restaurant and bar she added to her catalog of business ventures cemented her commitment to the area as a place where local businesses can thrive and prosper. Shea sent the photo above and wrote: “Anyone know what’s going on with Bardo?”

Kate writes: “This article got posted to Eater DC stating that Bardo is apparently now gone. I’ve checked their website and socials and none have been updated since at least October of 2021. Are they going to reopen somewhere new? Any scuttlebutt from the community?”

Bardo was in its 4th incarnation. (more…)
