It was closed when I walked by it, but it looks fantastic through the windows. What’s the scoop?

Hopefully you’ll have Monday off to recuperate!  Details from the email:

“We are very lucky to have amongst us, Mr. Wayne Anderson – Beer Guru extraordinaire who will be flying in from Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons Colorado. Wayne will be on hand at Red Derby this Sunday [Feb. 17] from 7pm on (or until his jet-lag consumes him) to help your winter blues with some heartier stuff with the triumphant return of Old Chub in cans to our Winter Menu. We are really excited to get a chance to hang out with Wayne and sample the new Ten Fidy Stout, talk shop, and try to passive aggressively coerce him into sending more varieties of Oskar Blue’s beers to the east coast (break out your brain-washing shoes).”

[Ed. note: Winner announced Feb. 22]

“When she was new to this city, my mother, a North Carolina transplant, found work here as a cook and waitress. When I was an infant she stowed me in a basket underneath one of the prep tables in the kitchen so she could keep me close while she was working. Some of the waitresses who doted on me then still work here today. Eventually my mom left the Tabard, went back to school and took a job teaching Pre-K. Despite moving to the burbs, she remained close with the staff and made sure to use special occasions (like my high school graduation) as an excuse to come back and have a meal.

It’s been nearly three years since my mom was killed in a car accident. In that time, almost imperceptibly, my dad has made the Tabard his unofficial home-away-from-home. He likes to sit on this stool, near where the waitresses pick up their drink orders, and make conversation while nursing his Jamesons. Sometimes, when I get the chance, I’ll join him here for dinner. There’s not a place in the city I’d rather be.”

Thanks to a reader for sending in this update about Marvin’s expansion from the ANC1B Meeting:

“The Commission heard about the adjoining space on 14th Street being acquired by the owner of Marvin. The owner wishes to have a low-key wine, and hors d’oeuvres with a garden. It will have the same architecture as Marvin, and the garden will be on the ground floor with a masonry wall or wood fence. Commissioner Spalding moved that the Commission support the new license. Commissioner Nadeau seconded the motion. The motion was adopted 10-0.”

Personally, I’m super psyched about the garden.

Oh!

I always wondered why the good folks at Solly’s would never let me leave out of this door.
