“The Square, a chef-driven food market destination where cuisine, culture, and community are woven together, is thrilled to announce that it will officially open to the public on Tuesday, September 5. For this first phase, six stalls, and the central 42-seat Atrium Bar will welcome guests.

Created by Richie Brandenburg, best known as the creator of Union Market, Rubén García, the former longtime creative director of José Andrés Group, and Tishman Speyer, The Square represents the next generation of food halls and features an evolutionary business model––focused on increased efficiencies, a shared revenue model between The Square and its chef partners, and economies of scale.

The backbone of The Square is a state-of-the-art, subterranean commissary kitchen featuring a communal bakery, butchery, prep kitchens, central ordering system, and liquor purchasing power. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

It has been too long since we have written one another. How the dreary, steamy days of Summer do drag on. Upon a goose down pillow eating grapes, battered by the radiant sun, I now fondly remember the announcement of our Electric Coney Inaugural .5K Labor Day Race. Oh for the innocent days of 2022!

We were all filled with so much hope for ’23, but alas, two thirds has nearly passed and we have hardly had a nice day to lounge in Rock Creek Park, eating caviar and toasting the inestimable successes of our royal positions. But fear not, friend, for the Electric Coney Second Annual .5K Labor Day Race is nearly upon us. My court is aflutter with news that our jester has even grander plans for this year’s festivities. “After many years and over 30,000 hollowed out flaming pineapples, the time has come for us to shut the doors to our little slice of island life. We’ve helped bring tiki back to DC, made a lot of dan dan noodles and navigated a global shutdown while always keeping the pina coladas flowing… but our time at the corner of 12th & U comes to an end on Saturday August 26th.
