adams_morgan_liquor_license_moratorium_18th_street

From the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration:

WHO/WHAT: The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (Board) will hold a hearing on Wednesday, May 7 to receive public input on two proposals regarding the Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone, which restricts alcoholic beverage licensing in the neighborhood. Proposals include:

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1C’s petition to renew the existing Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone for a five-year period with certain modifications [ed. note: would allow for new restaurant licenses]; and
Kalorama Citizens Association’s petition to renew the existing Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone for a five-year period with no changes to current restrictions.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 7

WHERE: Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration Hearing Room
2000 14th St., NW, Suite 400 South, 4th Floor

BACKGROUND: The Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone extends approximately 1,400 feet in all directions from the intersection of 18th St. and Belmont Road, NW. The following alcoholic beverage license restrictions apply in the zone:

No new licenses for restaurants, nightclubs, taverns and multipurpose facilities.
No more than 10 licenses for taverns and multipurpose facilities.
A licensed restaurant is prohibited from changing its license class unless there are fewer than 10 tavern and multipurpose facility licenses issued in the zone.
A license holder outside the zone is not permitted to transfer its license to a location within the zone unless it is an off-premise retailer or hotel.

The Board extended the existing moratorium to July 12 to allow time to evaluate both proposals.”

sundress_fest_wonderland

Gonna be an epic Sundress Fest this year. Activities all day and judging (of which I’m one) of the participants begins at 5pm:

“As we celebrate our first decade in the neighborhood, Wonderland invites D.C. to come out Sunday, May 4, to support a local charity by putting on a sundress and celebrating life. We’ll have an all-day happy hour for ANYONE in a sundress. We’ll have a pig roast (and veggie options!) in our Bohemian Beer Garden. And we’ll have our annual Champagne of Beers toast to the Wonderland mascot, the White Rabbit. You can bring your own sundress, or get one at Wonderland. We’ll have racks of sundresses, and everyone can find one that fits. It’s all for charity, so c’mon, show a little leg.”

Wonderland is located at 11th and Kenyon St, NW.

More restaurant/bar news for 18th Street just south of Adams Morgan. A recent liquor license placard posted at Sandy’s Flowers says the space will become Saloon 45:

“Will provide a small menu approximately 5 to 7 items of mostly fried foods along with over 50 specialty craft beers chosen mostly from local brewers. We have a small selection of wines and cocktails. Drinks and food will be provided in a quiet relaxing environment either inside at a table or outside in our summer garden. Summer Garden Seats #36, Total Occupancy Load #85.”

Hours are listed as Sunday through Thursday: 8am-2am, Friday and Saturday: 8am-3am.

CityPaper reports that the owner is a professional poker player who took 45th place in last year’s World Series of Poker.

Updates as they get closer to opening.

From an email:

“The second Delicatessen After Dark — Highway to the Danger Zone: Cocktails of the 80’s— will take place on Thursday, April 24th from 8pm to late at the DGS Bar. Come imbibe on $10 specialty cocktails with our extraordinary Bar Man Brian Zipin.

Many believe the 1980’s was the dark ages for drinking. Some cocktails were great, some were not so great; we are picking our favorites and giving them the respect they deserve. We will change the way you think about a Midori Sour, Fuzzy Navel or Cosmopolitan (full menu below).

Our resident Pit Master Brian Robinson, aka DJ Pork and Beans, will spin some classic 80’s tunes. To celebrate, come donned in 80’s era clothes. There will be an award given for the best 80’s outfit. The grand prize is a collection of classic 80’s movies.

Delicatessen After Dark is a celebration of the new delicatessen drinking culture inspired by our grandparent’s long nights in Lower East side taverns, winter getaways to Florida and jazzy escapades to the Catskills. Delicatessen After Dark will take place on the last Thursday of every month and focus on a new style, era or spirit.

No reservations required.”
