@thepugdc:

“So this week we’re celebrating 8 years. Thursday night, we’ll probably do some shots to commemorate.”

H Street and the District are a better place since you’ve been around. Here’s to many more years of cops & skels & hayseeds & knuckleheads & good neighbors. All the incessant best of contests will never change the fact that you are best. Keep on keeping on.

Ed. Note: Before you reflexively say something negative please read the full description below. I know it goes against instinct but it can be done. Personally, I’d like to give a professional breakdancer for over 20 years the benefit of the doubt so let’s at least wait for them to open before judging. Obviously it won’t be for everyone and that’s ok. No need to poison the well just for fun.

If you are a huge Patty Boom Boom fan, I feel ya – take time to grieve – and revisit in a few months – also no need to reflexively trash the replacement. Here’s the link to the original story about the coming closure where you can lament the passing. I mean that genuinely.

I recognize my request may fail but I felt it needed to be said.

Cool I hate having to preface like that now here’s the owner’s vision for the coming Cloak & Dagger:

“So in a nut shell Cloak & Dagger’s concept will pay homage to DC’s history of elusive spies, espionage and underground secret society. A red telephone booth (London style sorta like the Dr. Who) will be the disguised entrance way into the bar/lounge. Covert rooms leading to different areas (I.e. the entrance, VIP room, DJ booth, etc) of Cloak & Dagger will provide a fun and classy Victorian style old school ambiance.

The 1st floor will be more of a speakeasy type of bar. A secret book shelf door will lead into this bar where it will be set up more as a mixology concept with seasonal drink menu specials.

2nd floor will more of the “club” where we will have the DJ’s set up for play to the crowd. The 3rd level mezzanine will be more for the bottle service crowd who prefer to keep it more chill with their group of friends.

Weekly events will depend on the nights. I’ve been a professional breakdancer for over 20 years (my crew is the Lionz of Zion)… so as someone who loves dance I definitely plan on having some nights that will cater to all the dancers (housers, bboys/bgirls, hip-hop dancers). I want to create an environment that not only has great music but is fun and entertaining. I feel that the DC scene has lost some of that and plan to bring that type of energy back.”

I’m incredibly excited for Dew Drop Inn from the owners of Wonderland. So are a lot of other folks – thanks to all who sent emails and tweets. The placard says:

“Neighborhood pub serving American-style sandwiches and salads with a 10×10 foot dance floor at the north end, and live musical entertainment with an emphasis on jazz and acoustic quartets. Total Occupancy Load of 68 and Summer Garden with 21 seats. Entertainment Endorsement.”

Can’t freaking wait.

Big news about one of the early Hilton brothers spots (h/t @barredindc) Patty Boom Boom is closing after 5 years on U Street. Their facebook page says:

“Dear all Patty Boom Boom lovas, February 21, 2015, we will close. Please catch all your favorite DJ’s for their last sets this month. Patty Boom Boom will “pop-up” in the Spring during Memorial Day weekend on Restaurant Marvin’s Deck and Den of Thieves DC!”

Patty Boom Boom opened up in January 2010. They did a nice reno of a beat up building – here’s how it partially looked in 2008:

The Hilton brothers (and other partners) of course still have Marvin, Gibson, Den of Thieves, American Ice Co., the Brixton, El Rey and Satellite Room nearby.

But Patty Boom Boom certainly brought a lot of flavor to U Street. They will be missed. Looking forward to seeing who takes over the space.

Thanks to a reader for sending from the Queen Vic’s Facebook page Saturday:

“Last night, two d-bags came into The Vic and sat at the bar. After ordering a drink they proceeded to tell our bartender how she needed to be f****d hard by them. They were given the option of either going to the upstairs bar and leaving her alone or leaving. They didn’t like either option and instead said that our other staff members should f*** her and “break her in two”. So they were kicked out. After punching two members of staff and breaking our windows, the police arrested and charged them.

So first, we would like to say THANK YOU to our members of staff and our loyal regulars who immediately came to our defense, and showed amazing self restraint (even after being punched in the face). We know exactly how this could have gone down, but you all did the right thing and we are so very grateful for that.

Secondly, thank you to the police for arriving before things got too out of hand and dealing with the situation so effectively.

And last, to the two p****s who started all of this (whose names we are not going to post), you are so very, very lucky to be in a cell right now and not a hospital. Next time, you may not be so lucky.”
