3410 11th Street, NW between Park and Monroe

From the fine folks at the Good Silver:

“The Good Silver in Columbia Heights is excited to announce that our happy hour specials are about to get even BETTER! Sometimes you want an after work beer or a simple, delicious cocktail to wash down the day and welcome the looming apocalypse. We just want to put the sh*thole year that was 2017 behind us and start the new year off right with food and drink specials that will truly Make 11th Street Great Again. But, enough reminiscing about the dumpster fire of yesteryear. If you haven’t checked us out, have been but haven’t in awhile, came last night but don’t remember, or are bar-curious, everything below is available from 5-7 PM Sunday through Friday:

$2 Miller High Life cans
$6 Classic Cocktails – think Manhattans, Old-Fashioneds and ice-cold Martinis
$5 local beers from Hellbender, Atlas, and Dogfish Head
$5 glass or $20 pitcher of Nana’s Vengeance , our signature draft cocktail (bourbon with house-made lime cordial and tonic)

In addition to the drink specials, we’ll be serving up $4 snacks to keep your belly lined for more delicious booze as well! Grab some crispy tater tots, chips ‘n’ dip, or our housemade chicken nuggets with DCAF mumbo sauce for dipping. (more…)

“Chef/owner Ruth Gresser of Pizzeria Paradiso and her team will debut Paradiso Game Room, located in the downstairs bar of Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown on January 12th. Birreria Paradiso’s extensive beer selection has moved upstairs, and the casual and playful basement space will feature nine arcade games, a jukebox, happy hour, an extensive canned beer menu, and the ability to order Pizzeria Paradiso’s classic Neapolitan pizzas.

The arcade games, which will rotate, include Skee-Ball, Big Buck Hunter, Pinball, Golden Tee and more, as well as a jukebox. The new Game Room also features a custom mural by artist and Stillwater Brewery label designer Mike Van Hall. The mural incorporates rooster tails as abstract shapes with colorful circles representing the District of Columbia and the two surrounding states, as well as four sets of circles to represent the four Pizzeria Paradiso locations.

The full menu from Pizzeria Paradiso will be available downstairs, while the new beer menu by executive beverage director Drew McCormick, features over 50 selections of cans. Pizzeria Paradiso recently announced that it will only carry beer produced by independently owned and operated breweries, which McCormick also factored in while designing the Game Room Menu.  The full list of canned beer options, which will rotate, is below.

Game and music pricing is as follows: (more…)

2012 9th Street, NW

I took 24 photos of the light fixtures alone. And this was just a pre-preview but I couldn’t stop marveling. Folks familiar and who were fans of the OG Chez Billy (RIP) on Georgia Ave in Petworth will be very, very pleased. Gaslight reminds me a lot of how Chez Billy looked like when they first opened. Not exactly of course, here we have a serious 1920s Art Deco vibe.

Before we get to all the photos, which really don’t do the space justice but will give you a taste, a few details. The Hilton brothers, most know by now, are the crew behind Marvin, Gibson, El Rey, Satellite Room, Brixton and more. Joe Reza is the force behind American Ice Company (and more.) So you know the place is gonna look good. But I spoke to Joe briefly yesterday who was actually most excited about the food. The chef will be Brendan L’Etoile from Chez Billy Sud and he’s excited about oysters. I am excited that he is excited about oysters. Joe says there won’t be reservations but it’ll be like the first floor of Bar Pilar when they first opened. You find a seat and you’ll get good service. It’s casual but not too casual and both the food and service are expected to be “exceptional” according to Joe. Ed. Note: I’ll be posting the menus in full as soon as I get them. Anyway, they’ll be opening in “a few weeks” so as I said, this is just a pre-preview – stay tuned for proper preview photos and an exact opening date soon. In the meantime:

23 light fixtures and lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to @SocialAlertsDC for sending word about Abigail soft opening in the former Buckeye + Bear space. Abigail’s Facebook says:

“There once was a girl named Abigail, she was very ostentatious.

Abigail is a beautiful and luxurious lounge located in Washington, DC’s Dupont Circle.”

Also looks like the official opening is February:

From an email:

“Dear friends: it’s getting cold out there and the Grand Duchess is preparing to go into a brief hibernation. Over the next few months we will be scaling down our operations and closing on Sundays, as we finish the pop up phase of our business and prepare to renovate. In the Spring, we will reemerge with a bigger bar, second bathroom and some cool new banquettes and booths. The vibe will remain the same. The movie nights, open mic comedy and Rock ‘n’ Roll DJs will will be back, bigger and badder than ever. It has been a truly great soft launch so far and we want to thank all of our customers for being so awesome. Please keep an eye out for some special, one-time offers between now and the renovation — and thanks again for your support! Cheers!

Damn it, the curse of the Blue Banana is back. From Walters:

Walters Sports Bar closing 12/31. The team behind Walters would like to thank everyone over the last 2+ years for your support. While we would like to stick around for another Caps and Wizards playoffs run we can’t in good conscience be apart of a potential Eagles Super Bowl win (Kidding….maybe). With that said Walters will be closing 12/31 and we encourage everyone to visit Looking Glass and DC Reynolds for all your future sports watching needs. (more…)
