From a press release:

“JOHN DENVERVILLE is coming to D.C. thanks to the Patrons of PoPville. Dan Silverman is leading the charge to bring one of his favorite musical acts to his brand’s viral Web log experience, aka BLOG.

Beginning Thursday, September 6, the iconic Aspen-based adult contemporary singer (RIP) — who used to call D.C. groovy and also co-wrote here (along with Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert) his number one hit song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” one night after headlining at the Cellar Door in 1970 (true story) — will take over one of PoPville’s rotating columns based in North Cleveland Park (or possibly Tenleytown, it’s one of those confusing neighborhoods.)

JOHN DENVERVILLE will feature a 29-year retrospective of the singer’s signature hairstyles as well as a 20,000 word elegy on the dearth of good sushi in the 70s sung in rhyme. Other highlights include YouTube search results for such hits as “Leaving on a Jet Plane”, “Annie’s Song”, “Rocky Mountain High”, “Calypso”, “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”, and “Sunshine on My Shoulders”. The BLOG will also feature a limited-edition JOHN DENVERVILLE calendar and a merch store where old pictures of Dan playing youth soccer will be for sale. (more…)

It gives me no pleasure to pass on this scuttlebutt from a reader:

“Was talking to one of my favorite bartenders from Bourbon who said the place is closing. Adams Morgan Day (Sept. 9th) will be the final day. Saw the writing on the wall about two months ago with total change in nearly everything from staff to food. Place has been limping along.”

Oh man, this place used to be one of the best. Would be terrible if true. I’ve emailed Bourbon for comment and will update when/if I hear back from them.

Whoa. Thanks to Julia (and others) for sending. Julia saw these signs posted around 7:30pm Friday night: “Wubalubadub pub pop-up in Shaw shut down for an emergency.”

Drink Company Facebook says:

“Wubba Lubba Dub PUB was designed by fans for fans, though we think everyone would have enjoyed it. It was a labor of love and included hand sewn Meeseeks from our CEO Angie’s mother; graffiti work by an incredible artist; a 25-foot Ruben cut out by our Special Projects Director, hockey-referee-turned-craftsman Matt Fox; and deep references to a show that has made us all laugh out loud and confront the deeper meaning behind the gags. In a word, we are fans geeking out.

Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network wasn’t willing to let us do that and demanded we shut down. We then reached an agreement, and thus delayed for a week, but they changed their minds, threatened us with exorbitant fees and then took everything off the table today and refused to talk any further.
