From the Old Takoma Business Association:
“We have learned that Starbucks is actively considering the Takoma commercial district (DC and MD) as a new market.
The Old Takoma Business Association works to support locally-owned, independent businesses and recognizes the great, small businesses already in Takoma that serve coffee like La Mano Coffee Bar, Capitol City Cheesecake and Spring Mill Bread Company.
We’d like to ask for community feedback about a possible Starbucks in Takoma. Please share your comments HERE

From an email:
“I am pleased to announce the release of the Washington, D.C. Indie Coffee Passport on December 1st.
The Indie Coffee Passport gives customers the opportunity to discover Washington, D.C.’s independent coffee culture drink-by-drink, neighborhood-by-neighborhood. The Passport gives customers one free drink at DC’s best and hippest cafes. The Indie Coffee Passport hopes to encourage Washington residents to step outside of their regular coffee routine and explore the burgeoning coffee scene in our city.
There are 17 stops on the Washington DC Indie Coffee Passport: three Peregrine Espresso locations, Ebenezers Coffeehouse, Chinatown Coffee, M.E. Swing Company, two Pleasant Pops locations, BakeHouse, The Blind Dog Café, Sweet Science Coffee, The Potter’s House, Flying Fish Coffee and Tea, Harrar Coffee and Roastery, Qualia Coffee as well as Java Shack in Arlington, Virginia and Bump and Grind in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The $20 Passport runs from December 1st to June 31st; passport holders can visit each café and pick one of the 4-7 drinks each café has picked out for passport holders. These drinks range from a shot of espresso, to a honey lavender latte, and many other exciting options. Each café also offers a tea option for those who don’t drink coffee.”

I’d love to know how much they pulled in a year here. Any guesses?

La Colombe’s first DC spot in Blagden Alley Spot in Shaw
The Coffee Bar, Compass Coffee and now La Colombe about to open their second spot in DC. Good news for those in Chinatown – La Colombe replying to a reader inquiring about the long planned Chinatown location at 6th and I St, NW:
“It’s true, it’s true. Only a week away!”

Compass Coffee regularly has lines out the door at their 1535 7th Street, NW location. The new location is on 8th Street just south of Florida Ave (north of T and All Souls Bar.) This is the second super popular coffee shop to open their 2nd location recently – last week The Coffee Bar opened their 2nd spot on 17th Street. Good news for coffee lovers around town.

“A restaurant serving savory small plates and desserts meant for sharing, in addition to its coffee and breakfast offerings served all day, and offering wine & beer selections to its guest in a relaxing and comfortable environment.”

Here are the other locations:
