La Colombe’s first DC spot in Blagden Alley Spot in Shaw
The Coffee Bar, Compass Coffee and now La Colombe about to open their second spot in DC. Good news for those in Chinatown – La Colombe replying to a reader inquiring about the long planned Chinatown location at 6th and I St, NW:
“It’s true, it’s true. Only a week away!”

Compass Coffee regularly has lines out the door at their 1535 7th Street, NW location. The new location is on 8th Street just south of Florida Ave (north of T and All Souls Bar.) This is the second super popular coffee shop to open their 2nd location recently – last week The Coffee Bar opened their 2nd spot on 17th Street. Good news for coffee lovers around town.

17th, M and Rhode Island Ave, NW
Back in September we learned they were coming and now The Coffee Bar’s 2nd spot is open. Thanks to Josh for sending word and a shot inside:
“officially open at 17th and M. Yesssssss!”
Ed. Note: The Coffee Bar opened up their first location back in Dec. 2012 at 12th and S St, NW.

Back in March of 2014 a reader heard that Starbucks was considering selling alcohol. Turns out they were right! Some recent liquor license placards have been posted around town:
“A restaurant serving savory small plates and desserts meant for sharing, in addition to its coffee and breakfast offerings served all day, and offering wine & beer selections to its guest in a relaxing and comfortable environment.”

Here are the other locations:

1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW in south Dupont/Downtown

1700 Connecticut Avenue, NW in north Dupont
and 1810 Wisconsin Ave, NW in Georgetown and 5500 Connecticut Ave, NW in Chevy Chase.

Connecticut Avenue.

La Colombe’s first DC spot in Blagden Alley Spot
About a year ago we learned that La Colombe had plans for a second DC cafe in Chinatown. Though they had hoped to open early 2015 – happy to see plans still continue. From the Washington Business Journal‘s permit patrol:
“900 Sixth St. NW: Interior work only in this Sixth and Eye streets building to ready a ground-floor space for incoming coffeehouse La Colombe.”

Philz first DC location is coming early 2016 in The Adamo at 1827 Adams Mill Road, NW. They’ll open a second shop this Spring 2016 in Navy Yard.

A reader reports:
“I was walking to work yesterday and saw a sign for a new TCB in the Pillsbury building at 17, M and Rhode Island NW! I was sure that spot would be filled with the obligatory Starbucks, so I’m thrilled to see The Coffee Bar expanding. Yeah for locally-owned small businesses!”
Ed. Note: The Coffee Bar opened up their first location back in Dec. 2012 at 12th and S St, NW.

More good news for San Fran expats and apparently those who like really good coffee. Another Philz is on the way. Last week we followed up on the one coming to Adams Morgan slated to open early next year. And now one is coming to Navy Yard too. And for running fans another Pacers is opening up as well – Pacers new Logan location opened up just last month in the former Muleh space on 14th Street.
Lots more inf from a press release:
“Two more great new retailers have been announced for The Yards, DC’s premier waterfront neighborhood. Pacers Running, a popular, locally-based runners resource store will open in October in the Boilermaker Shops, while Philz Coffee, a growing San Francisco-based coffee shop, will open in the new Arris residential building in Spring 2016. The announcement of the latest retailers to join The Yards was made by Forest City Washington, the project’s master developer. (more…)
