Thanks to a reader for passing on this scene from Friday afternoon:
“5pm Friday, 17th & Penn on Whitehouse grounds. Secret Service telling rider of dockless bike to stay away from his bike he just left and asking him why he left it there.”

From a press release:
“ofo, the world’s first and largest station-free bike sharing company, announces its launch in Washington, D.C. today.
“We have seen great engagement with our bicycles in the U.S. so far and are thrilled to bring ofo to Washington, D.C.,” said Dai Wei, founder and CEO. “As we continue to expand to new regions, more and more cities show great interest in ofo because of its convenience, positive environmental impact and health benefits. We look forward to bringing ofo to more cities across the U.S. soon.”
ofo will deploy 400 of its bright yellow bikes over the course of its first week. In accordance with the city’s pilot policy, ofo bicycles will be rolling out in every ward, including high-traffic areas like Foggy Bottom, Farragut Square, Dupont Circle, Chinatown and Union Station. Users can download the ofo app to find nearby bikes and scan the QR code located on either the frame or smart lock to unlock them. Once a trip is completed, users will be charged a fee of $1 for each hour ridden.
Rides throughout the city are free until October 22nd, with additional promotions taking place throughout the coming months. (more…)

“This one is off of New York Ave and 5th Street NE near Union Market. It’s been in the same spot but different position every day this week!”

Or maybe they just need to increase the hourly rate? Of course maybe it was stolen.

Thanks to M for sending:
“I’m sending a photo of a lime bike I spotted at my gym’s locker room. I understand I am not supposed to take photos at a locker room but I couldn’t help this time! As you can see, the person who used this bike left some belongings in the basket so no one could claim the bike…”
hahaha it really is amazing. This series is slowly surpassing last Christmas tree in town as my personal favorite. Many more good ones in the queue.

Said the dockless bikeshare mangers deployed to D.C. Thanks to Mike for sending the latest:
“Apparently folks have already figured out how to steal the dockless bikes. MPD is dealing with a rash of bikes that have had their rear brake locks knocked off. They apparently can’t arrest people on them until the company reports them as stolen.”
So maybe this explains this scene from yesterday.
Another Mike sends: “This bike, seen at Union Market, got into fight and lost. I’m not even sure how just the basket broke–rest of the bike looks OK.”

Thanks to Tony for sending from 21st and Benning (above).
