I thought these were interesting because of the garages in the back. They’re definitely reminiscent of the ones on 13th and V St, NW. What do you think – thumbs up or down?

I thought this was an interesting looking building. It is located at 909 New Jersey Ave, SE. It is currently a rental building featuring “luxury residences”. But what do you think of the building itself – thumbs up or down?

From a R2L:Architects press release:
“Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1B approved the recommendation of its Design Review Committee on November 4, 2010 to support the design concept of a proposed new development at 2221 14th Street, NW. The six-story, 30-unit apartment house with ground floor retail and one level underground parking garage will be located on the southeast corner of 14th Street, NW and Florida Avenue, NW. The owner is Douglas Development, and the architect is R2L:Architects, both of the District.
The concept design features a contemporary palette of glass, metal, brick and terra cotta panels. Angular projecting bay windows will provide views from the apartments down both the 14th Street and Florida Avenue corridors. On the ground floor, large glass shop windows could accommodate a café, restaurant or other retail establishment. The project is located within the Greater U Street Historic District, and will seek concept approval from the Historic Preservation Review Board later this month.”
Here’s what the corner looks like now:

A couple more renderings after the jump. (more…)

We first had our eye on this project back in June. I happened to walk by it last weekend and was planning to show the shots but I’m happy to also have the listing info (thanks to a reader for sending).
You can find the listing info here and photos of the inside here. It’s yours for $1,285,000.

After the jump you can see what it looked like in June. (more…)

It’s been a while since we checked out . What do you think now?
Ed. Note: RedStone Condo is a PoP advertiser but don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings if you’re not a fan.

I’ve been dying to know what’s going into this building on H St, NE (next to the Atlas Theater) but sadly haven’t seen anything yet. So in the meantime, lets judge the building. I’ve been watching this building for months and months and this is a complete rehab. It’s def. a unique building for the street. It has some interesting details:

But what do you think overall – thumbs up or down?

Wed. morning there was a ceremony announcing the launch of this new project. Was it worth getting completely soaked? No, but I am excited about the project. I think it’s going to inject a lot of life into this section of 14th St.
So, what do you think of the rendering? Think it’s a good fit for the 14th Street corridor?
Details from a press release:
The JBG Companies and Grosvenor announce plans for a premier mixed-use residential and retail development.
Located in the heart of Logan Circle, the new glass, metal and terracotta structure will incorporate the historic building that once housed the Whitman-Walker Clinic. It will span the entire block of 14th Street NW between S and Swann streets NW. Construction on the project is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2012.
The development was designed by Shalom Baranes Architects, one of the area’s most prolific designers, known for its innovative style and extensive historic preservation experience. When completed, the building will be seven stories and will offer 125 sleek condominium residences. The renowned Toronto-based interior design firm, Cecconi Simone Inc., selected all of the building’s interior finishes and designed the unit layouts and all common area spaces, including a lobby lounge, fitness center and extensive rooftop terrace. Building features include a glass and terracotta façade with balconies and private unit terraces. An elaborate rooftop terrace amenity area will feature outdoor living rooms, an outdoor kitchen and bar, a fire pit, water feature and a sundeck. The first floor will have 18,000 square feet of retail space.

The future District Condos, view from S St, NW

Current view on 14th St, NW

I forget the exact street, I think it’s Florida Ave pretty close to 1st St, NW.
Can anyone explain why they’d put a staircase in front of the window? (There is a house in Shaw that also has a staircase in front of a great bay window).

Overall thumbs up or down on this one? Note that there appears to be solar panels on the back.

Inter American Defense Board building looking good at 2600 NW 16th St, NW. It is amazing what a paint job can do. And of course the architecture is pretty bad ass in and of itself.
For the curious – from Wikipedia:
“The Inter-American Defense Board is an international committee of nationally appointed defense officials who develop collaborative approaches on common defense and security issues facing countries in North, Central, and South America. The IADB provides technical advice and services to the Organization of American States (OAS).”

It’s been a while since we checked on this pop up (and out). Here’s what it looked like back in June. I have a suspicion I know where the votes are gonna go on this one but I’m still holding out some hope it’ll turn out ok. Any possibility it’ll turn out ok?
