“EagleBank, one of the largest community banks in the Washington, D.C. area, today announced that it provided financing to support the construction of a luxury apartment complex in Northwest Washington, D.C.’s 16th Street Historic District. The project is a joint venture led by Perseus TDC and equity partner Allstate Insurance Company.
EagleBank’s loan offering will fund a significant portion of total project costs, allowing Perseus TDC to construct a five-story, 158-unit luxury apartment building with an underground parking garage for both residents and Scottish Rite Temple patrons. (more…)

Since its construction in 1860, this late Victorian-style building in Penn Quarter has been home to St. Marc Hotel, Central National Bank, Apex liquor store, Sears, and the headquarters for National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) since 1995. NCNW was founded in 1935 by the great educator, stateswoman, and civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune “to lead, advocate for, and empower women of African descent, their families and communities.”

Zay asks us: “what is this?”
This curiosity used to come up every year but it was last asked back in 2016. They are the remaining columns from the Henderson Manor Garden at 16th and Florida Ave, NW.
The Post’s Answerman dug up the full story. In part:
“Burnap’s 16th Street garden featured an open lawn bordered with shrubbery. A high wall faced Florida Avenue and turned the corner at 16th before stepping down to a low wall and ornamental iron fence. At the rear of the property, four Doric columns held up a hanging garden. Most striking was the intricate latticework that covered most of the interior walls.” (more…)

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser, the Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Department of General Services (DGS) celebrated the completion of The Terrell, the Short-Term Family Housing (STFH) site in Ward 1 and the last of the eight STFH sites to open in the District. This achievement marks another milestone toward Mayor Bowser’s strategic plan to end homelessness and close DC General in favor of short-term family housing programs.
