Happy 40th Birthday to Vlad, The Zoo’s “totally tubular two-toed sloth”!!

The National Zoo is no stranger to great content but this might be their best (non panda related) post.

It’s not just America have a big birthday – big celebration from the Smithsonian’s National Zoo on Tuesday:

“Be kind. Rewind…to 1986. Vlad, our totally tubular two-toed sloth, turns 40 today! 🎉 Small Mammal House keepers threw him an 80s pop culture birthday bash that was awesome to the max. 😎 💜 Inside his Purple Rain(forest) habitat, they placed enticing tulip poplar, elm, sweetgum and sycamore leaves for Vlad to enjoy. As a special sweet treat, he chowed down on some slices of apple, mango, grape, pear and orange, too. 🎂 (more…)

Ovechkin: “I’m back!” One Year Contract Signed!!

Huge news from the Caps:

“The Washington Capitals have re-signed captain Alex Ovechkin to a one-year contract extension, Senior Vice President and General Manager Chris Patrick announced today. Ovechkin will earn $1 million in salary, a $4.75 million games-played bonus (10 games) and a $3.25 million signing bonus. Ovechkin’s contract will carry an average annual value of $4.25 million.

“I’m back!” said Ovechkin. “Thank you to everyone for giving me and my family the time to make this decision. I’m healthy. I love playing hockey and competing to win. I’m excited to come back and join my teammates so we can fight for a playoff spot and have a chance to win. See you in September, DC!”

Lupo Pizzeria Closed on 14th Street Tuesday Night, Sofra on 14th Soft Opened

Before Lupo Pizzeria this space was the former home to a Taylor Gourmet which closed in 2018. Prior to them this was the longtime home to Ruff n Ready.

Thanks to Rich for sending: “Lupo Pizzeria (opened in June 2021 at 1908 14th Street, NW) closed after tonight’s (Tuesday) service but Lupo Verde is staying open.”

“More Fireworks on MBT – With the number of people and children who use the trail every day, this is so dangerous and scary.”

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to add a follow up warning to your post about the fireworks at Tanner Park’s movie night last week. Anyone using the MBT should be very aware of their surroundings this weekend and use extra caution passing through.

Today (Wednesday) at about 6:45pm, a kid was holding and shooting a lit firework down the trail at basically chest height. He, and we, were all under the New York Ave bridge – that’s how close range this was, and it’s lucky no one was hit. (more…)
