As mentioned a few weeks ago, the Nevin Kelly gallery has moved into the Highland Park apartment building at 1400 Irving Street, NW, #132. They had an opening last Saturday that I checked out. At first it’s a bit odd because the gallery is in a converted apartment. So there’s a kitchen and living room etc. But the key here is the art itself. And one of the benefits of being in this unit is that there are two levels so there’s plenty of wall space to exhibit the pieces. And Nevin (pictured above) really has some cool stuff. Another great thing about this opening was that I bumped into local blogger Mr. T in DC (pictured below) who was a super nice guy.

Thanks to a reader for sending. It seems from reading about your experiences that here’s a good way to voice your frustrations over the inauguration ticket fiasco.
Sen. Feinstein Calls for Ticket Investigation and Asks Participants for Information.

Washington, DC—U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, today issued the following statement in response to reports of incidents which prevented a large number of ticketholders from reaching their designated areas at the 56th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony:

Following is Senator Feinstein’s statement:  Continues after the jump. (more…)

When I’ve posted in the past about atrocious pop ups people have often advocated for historic districts to prevent horrendous additions. So what is the counter argument against Historic Districts? Can historic districts be too restrictive? I spotted this sign in the Adams Morgan neighborhood.

I couldn’t figure out why someone would have a camouflaged garbage can so I thought I’d throw it out there for a caption contest. Your caption in the comments – winner, announced Friday, gets a PoP t-shirt.

Here is last week’s winner.

“I saw this sticker on a utility box at 11th and Columbia and was wondering if you had seen it elsewhere/what it means (or if any of the readers did). I know it means “Mother Love”, but beyond that, I have no idea.”

Hmm, I’ve also only seen this at 11th and Columbia. It does remind me a bit of the baby from the greatest city sticker yet? which I posted back in the middle of Dec.

Anyone seen these around town? My guess is that it relates to the “Spanish-language telenovela produced by the United States-based television network Telemundo.” You can find a bit more info from Wikipedia. Any Telemundo fans out there? Is that what this sticker refers to?

I think the wood border is the coolest feature of this door.

I’ve never seen one that has white stone like this. But of course what really interested me was the fact that is another historical house:

This comes from “arisenders”. I really love how the trees look in this photo surrounded by huge crowds.

I’ve gotten tons of good entries so far and am still accepting more through Friday. You can email them to me directly or tag them in flickr with popobamaweekcontest. Congrats “arisenders” on this great shot. Another cool shot by arisenders after the jump. (more…)
