A reader writes:

“I have a question about the “work in progress” on the northeast corner of 12th and S NW. There was a lot of activity rebuilding the house for a period of time but it has not sat abandoned for months. Even the fence has fallen down. What’s going on with this property? It looked like it was close to being finished.”

Sadly, when I went over there this weekend to snap the photos there was not a soul around to ask. From this photo:

It certainly looks like they were going to be condos. And it does look super close to being finished. I wonder if the developer ran out of money. Anyone know the scoop here?

I’m really a big fan of these small little hidden streets. So in addition to the price what do you think about the home itself? Do you dig the exposed brick? The asking price for this 2 bed 1 bath is $479,000. Given the location – reasonable?


The Little Fountain Cafe is located in a hidden little spot below the bar Angles at 2339 18th Street, NW. Here’s a look at the menu. It’s a great date spot and the food is often excellent. Full disclosure – I know the owner and chef pretty well. I previously mentioned it briefly when we spoke about hidden restaurants. But what do you guys think – thumbs up or down? Do you like any particular dish?


I posted the unfinished mural back in November. At that time in the comments there was some concern that the neighborhood demographics weren’t properly represented. But looking at the completed mural it is most definitely diverse:

I love not having a destination on my walkabouts because I somehow always manage to end up stumbling upon the coolest places. So at first, I just thought this was a cool building with some sweet weathered old school signs. But upon further inspection I noticed a sign that said it was the Brass Knob’s warehouse.

The Brass Knob is the cool spot we looked at last May in Adams Morgan on 18th Street. This warehouse is located at 57 N Street, NW. I nearly had a heart attack when I entered and was greeted by dozens and dozens of old doors. Mind you, it’s been fairly well established I’m not 100% normal and of course post a “door of the day” feature. I guess you can imagine my reaction.

The place is huge. It has two floors and an outdoor area. In addition to doors there were hundreds of windows, radiators, bathtubs, and much much more. Super cool. Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)


Thanks to a reader for telling me about this sign located on a house around the 3900 block of 14th Street, NW. I have to admit, even though I took this photo from the sidewalk, I was pretty terrified that the door was going to open at any moment. Thankfully I had fully stretched and was prepared to run like the wind…

The Washington Business Journal wrote back in June:

“”It’s basically going back to the original gelato where it’s a very simple and wholesome dessert, without coloring,” [Noah] Dan said. Prices will range from $4.77 for a regular portion to about $6 for a large serving, big enough for two people, he said. All the gelato will be made in-house, using organic and locally farmed ingredients.”
