I needed a photo like this after a pretty gray few days. Have a great weekend!

The building that will house Meridian Pint at the corner of 11th and Park is starting to look good. How do you think it looks so far?

And the new row house/condos on the 2100 block of 11th Street near V is getting close to finished. I kinda dig the big windows. Do you think it’s starting to look good and will fit on the block or is too early to tell?

“The 2009 H Street Festival will fill four blocks of the H Street Corridor with food, entertainment, sports, fashion, and fun, on Saturday, September 19, 2009, from Noon until 6 PM.
The Festival grounds extend along H Street, NE, from 10th to 14th Streets.
There will be activities and fun for people of all ages from sword swallowers to Scientology, local elected officials, three live music stages with all-day programming, including Step Afrika, indie bands courtesy of the Rock and Roll Hotel, gospel, doowop, funk, blues, and more.
The Washington National new NatMobile will roll onto the Urban Sports Plaza with a Racing President to join Duncan Yoyo experts near a boxing ring and climbing wall for kids. Bring your own jump rope, exhibit your Double Dutch skills, and win a trophy! You go, girl!
Fourteen Art Cars will be displayed in the Urban Arts block in the Atlas District with speed chess challenges, food, food, food, and Baby Loves Disco.
H Street’s commitment to green design will be on display in the Green Street exhibit featuring green roofs, rain barrels, Zipcar, Casey Trees, and the LEED architects who are making H Street the Greenest Street in DC.
DC Fashion Week kicks off with a runway show by local designers on Urban Wear Stage that will close with a Tattoo contest, sponsored by H Street’s own British Ink.
Restaurants and bars along the Corridor will be open for business, offering their regular menus, and many will also feature street-side patios serving specialty dishes and cocktails. Several restaurants that will be opening in coming months, such as Dangerously Delicious Pies, are previewing their menus with booths alongside some of the most creative food vendors of any Festival in DC. New mobile vendor Curbside Cupcakes will be making its Washington debut, along the established On The Fly and the ever-entertaining Fojol Brothers. Vegan to BBQ – you’ll find it at the H Street Festival!
The exciting restaurants and bars, entertainment venues, and merchants in the community will welcome their neighborhood friends and visitors from around the Metropolitan region, as well as artists, exhibitors, and vendors from as far away as Massachusetts, New Orleans and California, as they turn the Festival site into a showcase for the rapidly developing entertainment, retail and dining destination. www.HstreetFestival2009.org” Continues after the jump. H Street Country Club is located at 1335 H Street, NE. It’s probably most well known for its mini-golf located on the second floor. Personally, I’m a huge fan of bar shuffleboard. So, now that they’ve been open for a bit, I’m wondering what folks think of the spot? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Do you think an improved drink selection will improve the spot? How’s the food? How are the crowds?
You can see the full press release about the new mixologist after the jump. (more…)

This great photo was taken by Jess J and titled, “best inactive fountain ever” and was taken “in the garden at my apartment building.” I agree, I agree.

This home stopped me in my tracks. What do you think of the photos? That new kitchen floor is pretty sweet, yeah? It has had a pretty significant price reduction. Originally offered at $875,000 it is now on the market for $725,000 – Good deal or not?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. Anything good happen this week?

Matt Dunn, originally from the Bronx, NY, lives in Shaw and has been a freelance photographer since June 2000. Matt’s work has been published in the New York Times, Spin Magazine, Mother Jones, Washington City Paper and other publications. He has work on photo projects internationally in Haiti, Cuba, India and Uganda. Matt previously featured a portrait series on PoP called “Tough”, archived entries can be found here. Disposition is a new portrait series. He writes:
“I have started a new portrait series called “Disposition”. A person’s disposition is one’s personal temperament, or according to Webster, one’s prevailing tendency, mood, or inclination. I am interested in how does each person I photograph copes with life in DC at the end of the decade, the year 2009. I hope to reveal each individual’s disposition in this series of portraits.”

“Dear PoP,
You may already have an idea about what’s going in on that huge lot along 14th that used to be a strip mall, but if not, for the first time, I’ve just seen guys with blueprints wandering the area, clearing scouting the site and, actually, talking about the rest of the block from what I could hear.”
Demolition began back in Nov. ’08 so this it’s great to finally hear some progress is on the horizon. Note the big shell in the back of the photo is no longer standing.
Well, I was having a discussion about where readers are from and the last time I did this poll I left a lot of neighborhoods out. So forgive me for an admin FQoTD, and this may not work because there are too many options, but I’m super curious to get an idea where y’all are from?
