Ojo Latino is a series by Néstor Sánchez Cordero. This week features a runway show from the H Street, NE Festival that took place on Saturday. Nestor was unable to get the names of the designers so if anyone went and recalls who they were please leave their names in the comments. Néstor says, “Images are around, the secret is to catch them at the right moment and with the right light…”

Four more beautiful shots after the jump. (more…)

We’ve touched on this issue a bit in the comment section of previous posts. But I’ve received a surprising number of emails asking why Columbia Heights doesn’t have a movie theater. And Sunday when I was walking downtown I passed the great E Street Cinema (just east of 11th Street, NW) and it made me think about it again. It seems that the E Street Cinema is wildly successful. So I hope I’m not being naive. I’m not saying that Columbia Heights should have a one screen independent theater. But why can’t Columbia Heights have a multi-screen independent theater modeled after the E Street Cinema? It seems like there is a real market out there.

I imagine the theater would attract folks from Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, Shaw/U Street/Logan Circle, Columbia Heights of course, Park View, Petworth, Brightwood, Brookland, and even Woodley Park/Cleveland Park among other neighborhoods. Is that not enough people to support a movie theater? If you think Columbia Heights could support a movie theater, where could it realistically go? How many screens would be ideal? Could it support a theater that shows independent films like E Street or a more traditional theater like Chinatown/Gallery Place Regal Cinemas?

I’ve been getting a number of emails about this spot. This is the place that is going to be the new lounge and sports bar, The Green Room, located at 3632 Georgia Ave. (right next door to Looking Glass Lounge). You can find more details from an interview I posted with the owner here. One thing I was excited to learn from the application was that there will also be a small summer garden that can seat 20.

I heard the H Street, NE festival was awesome. Sadly, I was in NYC and had to miss it. Ed. Note: Happy New Year everyone, I can’t believe it’s already 5770… Anyway, I was really disappointed to have missed the festival so I was pretty psyched to have seen a few of the cars near the Convention Center. The folks were super nice and were heading back to their respective homes in Georgia and Kentucky. For folks who went to the festival, what was your favorite part? Tomorrow morning I’ll post this week’s Ojo Latino featuring the fashion part of the festival.

More photos after the jump. (more…)

This archway was touched up a while ago and I just noticed the scaffolding was down. I think it looks exactly the same. Does it look more vibrant to you guys? Sunday was a beautiful day to see it again for the first time in a while.

For the record I think it looks great and always has.

You can see an umbrella peaking out just on the right hand side so the space is probably a bit bigger than it looks. I imagine it is super sweet up there (on N Street just east of 15th).

Yeah, ok, perhaps it is condos but I gotta give props to this structure. We judged this one, located on V St. between 13th and 14th, before it was fully completed and I think it came out looking really good. It’s not the most traditional but I dig a little modern flavor from time to time.

I needed a photo like this after a pretty gray few days. Have a great weekend!
