14th and T Street, NW previously home to Matchbox

Note: The Matchbox closed here back in September 2020. Matchbox opened here  back in late 2012. Historically the space was home to Arena Stage’s Living Stage outreach theater which had been long closed/vacant prior to Matchbox’s opening here.

2737 Sherman Ave, NW previously home to Napoli Pasta Bar before Capa Tosta

ICYMI: July 29, 2021 – Check outs some great photos of Capa Tosta, recently opened on Sherman Ave.

“Dear PoPville,

When you go to the Capa Tosta‘s website it has this message on it saying that it is closed. Looks like it may be changing to an Ulivo restaurant similar to the one they have in NYC.”

‘Capa Tosta is Closed.  Ulivo is Opening Soon. We’ll be opening our doors with a brand new name, look, and feel in the new year.’ (more…)



3116 Mount Pleasant Street, NW

Well this is wild. A liquor license placard for Dos Locos has been applied for at 3116 Mount Pleasant Street, NW – which is currently home to the long standing Mount Pleasant institution – Dos Gringos. When I walked by the placard wasn’t actually posted and a worker looked at my like I was crazy when I asked if they’d heard about it. WTF

“Dear PoPville,

I need to know EVERYTHING about this. I could barely focus my eyes or camera on what was going on, but this strange vehicle was going west on Rhode Island Ave, NE at the South Dakota intersection a little before 1am (January 1st) blasting about Trump and the Epstein files. It sounded so demonic at first a couple of neighbors came out with me to see what was happening.”

Anyone else hear this? If so what part of town were you in?
