For those who put graffiti on trees. I know there are many worse things in this world but I just find this particularly offensive. I also like saying the word particularly but that is neither here nor there.

I just thought this was hilarious. It is an advertisement for a Dominos special placed on the fence of one of those huge mansions in Logan Circle. If they do buy it, I bet they eat it with a fork and knife…

The Memorial
This is a spot that I’ve been meaning to check out for quite a while now and I’m glad that I did. The memorial is called the Spirit of Freedom and is surrounded by a Wall of Honor which list the names of 209,145 troops who served in the “United States Colored Troops” during the Civil War. You can find the memorial right outside the U St. metro stop at 10th and U St. (more…)
Sietsema concludes: “RedRocks has some details to fine-tune. Pacing is one of them. Chances are high that you’ll be eating your appetizer when your entree appears. Variety — easy on the carbs, please — is another issue. On the other hand, pizza is the purpose, and RedRocks, with a tweak here and a more generous hand there, could well become a destination for other than just its neighbors.”

A reader is interested in setting up an “orange hat” patrol around the Petworth Metro to try and deter future muggings.
She writes: “I’m getting a little frustrated with the inability of the police to, well, police New Hampshire avenue. A few weeks ago, after lurking through yet another debate on the Petworth mailing list about yet another mugging, I posted about the possibility of starting up an orange hat brigade to walk the Metro-up-New-Hampshire corridor, and got a few
responses but not an overwhelming number. This doesn’t have to be a lifetime committment: it seems like trying
to do this for a month could have real impact.”

Ed note: I’m not sure if you’ll actually be issued an orange hat but I think it is a great idea. I would suggest that you try to coordinate with MPD though.

So this is a new building that went up in the U Street neighborhood. What do you think of the modern architecture? Does it work next to the more traditional rowhouses?
The stolen rocker was returned to its owner late last night. The owner not only received her stolen rocker but she also had her “faith in humanity and community” restored. Nice.

Normally, I don’t like to see smoke billowing out of any buildings that I pass. This, however, is an exception that delights me every time I walk by it. Do you know what it is? Yes, it the building that houses Sweet Mango Cafe right across from the Petworth metro. But perhaps the sense that delights the most is not the sight of the smoke, rather it is the smell. It is the smell of delicious Jerk Chicken cooking. I dare you to walk by it and not get hungry…
