Why are there so many funeral homes in Petworth and Columbia Heights? I mean there are seriously a lot of them. And they seem to be smack dab in the middle of residential homes. I just don’t understand how there can be such a high concentration. I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot lately – but I mean no disrespect to the businesses – I’m seriously baffled by this phenomenon…

I passed this combination on U St. the other day. I don’t know what it is but I really like the contrast of the upscale art gallery on the ground floor vs the Tattoos and Piercing shop on the second floor.

You didn’t think I’d forget about mural of the week right? Well, this is a proper mural done on an abandoned building. I like the trees but I’m not to sure what is going on in the middle, maybe some freelance addition…

It was stolen around the area of Georgia Ave. and Harvard St. So if you see a green rocker email me [email protected] and I’ll relay the news to the owner.

The owner writes:
“Last night, getting home after a pretty crappy day, I discovered
someone had taken the rocking chair to my rocking chair/glider porch
combo. The set was a gift from my grandparents as reward for stepping into the homeownership arena some 7 years ago. Aside from it being a gift, it is the very set that I grew up playing on at the Grands when I was a child.”

This sign has been up for months on U St. towards Adams Morgan. Don’t you think he’d change it by now, or does the mustache lend a certain panache?

But if a bird escapes isn’t it pretty much gone? Don’t they fly to Queens or something? I think I read an article about all the escaped birds flying to this one tree in Queens. I swear I’m not making this up. I think it was in the New Yorker a few years back… For the record, I do hope they find Timmy.

North Sea delivers (def. to Columbia Heights and Petworth). They are quick and their menu is pretty good. They have the BEST steamed meat dumplings ever and the food is cheap. Like really cheap.
They also deliver beer, wine, subs, and ice cream. Ha.
You can get a combo meal, an order of dumplings, and a 6 pack of Tsing Tao for about 15 bucks….

Thanks to a reader for this tip. There has been a rumor for a number of months now that an Ethiopian Restaurant is coming to Georgia Ave. This place is on the corner of Georgia and Allison. Obviously it is not open yet but I looked through the window and it definitely looks like it is going to be a restaurant. I look forward to checking it out. Can anyone confirm this?
