“Dear PoPville,

Gigi is an illustrator and Manga comic creator. Her piece (included above) uses her signature comic-book style paired with nine haikus to tell the story of the creation of nuclear weapons and the devastation they can cause–with the goal of inspiring hope and agency among viewers by showing their power to effect change.

August 6 and August 9 mark the anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Gigi’s piece is a way to honor those anniversaries as part of a global  campaign that happens each August to demand a future free of nuclear weapons.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District seek the public’s assistance in locating suspects and a vehicle in reference to an Armed Robbery (Gun) offense that occurred on Monday, July 31, 2023, in the 1700 block of Columbia Road, Northwest.

At approximately 4:13 pm, the suspects approached the victim at the listed location. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and both suspects then assaulted the victim. (more…)
