They smell like weed. They’re full of trash and pet hair. And ever since Car2Go/ShareNow left North America during the pandemic, they also have no competition. Yes, readers, the French-owned awkwardness known as Free2Move is now pretty much DC’s only workable car sharing option. Oh sure, Zipcars exist, but they don’t touch the convenience of leaving a Free2Move in any legal space. And don’t get me started on Turo, which sounds like a great way to get into a lawsuit with the stranger who owns the car. What we need are robust competitors. On the morning of Saturday August 19th, I was on a motorcycle and got run over by a semi truck at the intersection of 7th street and New York ave while stopped at the light. The driver pushed forward while our light to left was red. I got crushed under the the front right tire. (more…)

This is a very tough one. Great Wall is always prominently mentioned when we discuss best Chinese in town. On Sunday Tim Carman tweeted: “My heart breaks to report that Great Wall Szechuan House will close this December. But I’m glad May Kuang and Yuan Chen, the partners in life and blisteringly good mala dishes, will finally get the retirement they deserve. Thank you both for feeding us so well for so long!”
Back in February 2020 we learned that, the Great Wall Szechuan House restaurant was for sale on 14th Street but would remain open until sold. Stay tuned for more info on that front.
