RFK Stadium Site – “D.C. has scored a victory in its fight for self-determination just in time for the holidays”

“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) celebrated the early morning Senate passage of her bill with Rep. James Comer (R-KY) to transfer administrative jurisdiction over the RFK Stadium campus from the federal government to D.C. for up to 99 years. The bill is now headed to the president’s desk to be signed into law.

The RFK Stadium bill clears the way for D.C. to use the land where the crumbling old stadium sits for redevelopment, commercial and residential development, or other public purposes. Norton has worked on prior versions of the bill aimed at revitalizing the RFK Stadium campus, which, at 174 acres, is the largest unused tract of land in the District, since 2017.

“MPD Arrests Two in the Shooting of 5-Year-Old Girl”

“The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a woman and man in the shooting of a 5-year-old girl in a Southwest apartment.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, at approximately 6:29 p.m., officers responded to the Unit block of Galveston Street, Southwest, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a five-year-old girl inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers quickly provided lifesaving first aid until DC Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and transported the child to a local hospital. The child remains hospitalized for treatment of critical injuries. (more…)

“Cracked Eggery, Inc., the parent company of a small chain of fast causal restaurants under the same name, has announced that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on December 5, 2024 to address financial challenges and restructure its debt obligations. The company’s filing of Chapter 11 is a strategic decision that will secure a sustainable future for the business while addressing its outstanding obligations to creditors.

The bankruptcy filing does not include the group’s two flagship eateries, located in the vibrant neighborhoods of Shaw and Cleveland Park, both of which remain operational and unaffected by the filing. These two establishments are separate entities and will continue to serve their loyal patrons. (more…)
