Update from MPD:

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a double homicide which occurred in the 5300 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast.

On Saturday, July 20, 2013 at approximately 4:35 am, police officers from the Sixth District responded to the 5300 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast, to investigate the report of two people shot. The police officers consequently located two shooting victims, an adult male and an adult female in the 5300 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast. Both shooting victims were unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the adult female victim to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel did not find any signs consistent with life in connection with the adult male shooting victim. The adult male decedent remained on the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, pending an autopsy.

The female decedent is identified as 28-year-old Jamie Jenkins of Southeast, Washington, DC.
The male decedent is identified as 21-year-old Jamahl Jenkins of Southeast, Washington, DC.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 1100 block of First Place, Northwest.

On Saturday, July 20, 2013, at approximately 4:20 am, police officers from the First District responded to the rear of the 1100 block of First Place, Northwest for a report of a “man down”. Upon arrival, they observed an adult male in an unconscious state, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and did not find any signs consistent with life. The decedent remained on the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, pending an autopsy.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld at the present time pending next of kin notification.
