Readers recently warned about thefts at bars here and here.

From MPD:

Two very important Robbery Arrest

For the second time in as many nights, Third District officers have arrested subjects for the robbery of cell phones from patrons out enjoying the cities nightlife. In the first case, 901 U street, the victim had her cell phone stolen from her purse while she was positioned at the bar area of the establishment. In the later case, 2447 18th Street, a subject was observed by witnesses pick pocketing cell phones from various patrons also at the bar area of this establishment.

In both cases, the subjects were stopped and arrested and the cell phones were recovered. The subject in the 18th Street case was actually in possession of 5 cell phones in total when stopped (further investigation revealed that 3 of those phones were stolen from (3) separate victims inside of the establishment)

While MPD is happy to announce the closures in these cases, we would like to remind all to safeguard their property when out in public. Both these cases are similar in nature as to the environment the crime occurred and the manner to which the subjects sought out their victims. We suggest that everyone try and maintain an awareness of their surroundings at all times and carry with them the least amount of valuable property as possible. In the event that you are a victim or witness of any crime, try to obtain as much information as possible about the subject involved as well as have the indentifying marks, serial numbers or codes to any property taken on hand or readily accessible. Thank you and let’s continue to make our streets safer daily.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
