Metro track work for weekend of April 20-22, 2012

Metro’s efforts to rebuild the rail system will continue over the weekend of April 20-22. The work will begin at 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, April 20), and continue through system closing on Sunday, April 22.

Red Line: Buses will replace Red Line trains between Rhode Island Avenue and Silver Spring stations to allow for tie work, rail fastener replacement, grout work, rail and insulator renewal, and station platform reconstruction at Fort Totten and Takoma stations. Blue Line: Buses will replace Blue Line trains between Rosslyn and Pentagon stations to allow for replacement of wooden rail ties. Arlington Cemetery Station will be closed. Blue Line trains will operate in two segments: between Rosslyn and Largo Town Center, and between Franconia-Springfield and Mt Vernon Square (via Yellow Line bridge). Orange Line: Trains will single track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church to allow for testing associated with the Silver Line extension. No significant delays are expected from this short stretch of single tracking, and Orange Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
