“The vibrant blocks on 14th Street from Spring Rd to Shepherd St, known as “Little Mexico” due to their high concentration of Mexican restaurants, are preparing for a weekend of Cinco de Mayo celebrations from May 4-5. The festivities aim to showcase the area’s renowned Mexican cuisine and drive economic growth for local businesses, highlighting Little Mexico’s potential as a premier culinary destination in D.C.
Visitors can indulge in the flavors of Mexico through special promotions at local restaurants, such as Anafre’s street taqueria, Taqueria Habanero’s discounted margaritas and tequila shots, Chicatana’s all-day happy hour featuring tacos and bandera shots, and DC Corazon’s flautas ahogadas with their famous moles. The festivities will also feature live mariachi performances on Saturday from 6-9 PM and a captivating Mexican Folk Dance performance by Corazon Folklorico from 1-3 PM on Sunday.
“Little Mexico has the potential to become a premier culinary destination in D.C.,” said Gabriela Mossi, Executive Director at Uptown Main Street. “By attracting visitors and encouraging them to explore Mexican favorites like Taqueria Habanero, Mezcalero, Anafre, DC Corazón, and Chicatana, we will also bring tra]ic to other great bars and restaurants such as Toro Bar, Red Derby, Lyman’s Tavern, Little Coco’s, and Añejo Bar and Grill.”
