“Dear PoPville,
I wrote a lot below so the TL;DR is the coffee date predator is still out there in the Dupont/Logan Circle area, giving the same spiel about being new to the area from NYC, giving a compliment, and asking to get coffee sometime. I’ve encountered him twice, almost 2 years apart.
I know you’ve posted about this guy quite a few times but I wanted to let the community know that the coffee date predator “from NYC and new to the area” is still at large and on the hunt for seemingly his next victim.
I first encountered him almost exactly 2 years ago, May 2022.
I was on my way home from work, and innocently glancing at my reflection in a window (lol) on the corner of 17th and K. I made eye contact with a guy inside (Chase bank, he was at the ATM) and immediately averted my eyes. At the next crosswalk, this guy walks up to me, directly into my space, and waves his hand in front of my eyes because I had my noise-cancelling headphones on and I guess he was trying to talk to me. I take one side out figuring he was asking for directions. He starts walking with me when I cross the street. He gives me the usual spiel of he’s new to the area, he just moved down from NYC, am I local, do I know any good coffee shops around, etc. He tells me he lives at the 1500 Mass apartments, and we should get a coffee together sometime. Sure, he’s nice enough but I got weird vibes. So when he asked for my number, I was going to give him a random one, but he was watching my phone to make sure the call goes through. Then he hugs me and kisses me directly on the cheek, after I gave him the polite bare minimum, which really raised my hackles. He starts blowing up my phone. I block him. He finds me on WhatsApp, which was creepy and scary.
Fast forward to today, over 2 years later. I’m walking home on 15th, and a car pulls out of the garage at 1500 Mass as I’m trying to pass on the sidewalk. I motion to him that he can go ahead, he does the same, and then he pulls up and blocks my path. He compliments the tattoo I have on my bicep, and asks where I got it. I told him Fatty’s in DuPont circle. He asked if the place was new and he was thinking about getting a tattoo. Then he says he just moved down from NYC so he’s new to the area, and suddenly all the pieces clicked into place for me. Apparently he didn’t recognize me, probably because he’s been doing this for so long with probably every lone female he encounters. Then he says we should get a coffee sometime and asked my name, so I gave him a fake one. He asked for my number, and I gave my real one again because I wanted to see if it was really the same guy. I watch him call me and it doesn’t go through, because I have him blocked, confirming my suspicion. I just said bye and walked away.
I wasn’t shaken like I was the first time, because I’d since seen at least one article you’ve posted about him, and there was a barrier with him being in the car. But I want women in the area to be aware and as always, stay vigilant. Same description: late 30s/early 40s, maybe 5’9”-5’10”, medium build, tan skin, objectively good looking guy with dark hair and silver streaks, brown eyes and a nice smile. Deceptively charming, one might say. And since he’s not outwardly aggressive or threatening, I don’t think there’s anything we can do about him except be aware.”
