From a press release:

Astro Beer Hall, a two-level beer hall and full-service coffee shop, will open for lunch at 11:30 a.m. starting on Friday, October 4th, 2019. This project is a collaboration between the owners of Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, Elliot Spaisman and Jeff Halpern, and Tin Shop – a creative bar and restaurant development group founded by Geoff Dawson and Peter Bayne. Located at 1306 G Street, NW, next door to the original Astro Doughnuts, Astro Beer Hall will serve lunch, happy hour and dinner in addition to an extensive catering menu; a separate breakfast menu and full La Colombe coffee service will debut in the coming weeks. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken’s original location will remain take-out only, with the ability for guests to dine-in at Astro Beer Hall.

A number of opening specials and giveaways, starting on Friday and available throughout the weekend include:

Friday October 3rd. From 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the first 100 people to order fried chicken will get a free doughnut and a $5 credit to the game room. $1 beers between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.
Saturday October 4th. $2 off all drafts from 2:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. for guests wearing college football attire. Free games downstairs in the game room all day 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Sunday October 5th. Between 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., first 50 people will get free ice cream doughnut sandwiches with any purchase. Starting at 4:00 p.m. until supplies last, any group of 4 or more who orders a round of whisky or tequila will get a free hot cake doughnut with each shot.

The menu, available here, developed by Chef Chris Kujala from Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken features snacks such as loaded tater tots, wings, and chicken sliders, a variety of chicken sandwiches and salads, and new items such as a Grilled Cheese and Bacon Doughnut Sandwich and a Crispy Portobello Mushroom Vegan Salad. Dessert options will not disappoint, with offerings that include Warm Doughnut Bread Pudding, a Chocolate Cake Doughnut filled with ice cream, a Chocolate Cake Doughnut Sundae, and “Fried to Order” Cake Doughnuts.

The extensive beer menu includes a variety of beers from 20 taps, including Flying Dog, DC Brau, Anxo, Aslin, Maine Beer Co. and more. Additional cocktail options will include classics like Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, Negronis, and Gin & Tonics. House red, white and rose wines will be available. Happy Hour will be offered Monday – Friday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., featuring $2 off all draft beers, and draft cocktails.

Astro Beer Hall offers booth and high-top seating for 350 throughout the two-level, 11,000 square foot space. The space-themed interior dedicated to space exploration features a “Shoot The Moon” mural by muralist Patrick Owens, a series of custom comic prints, and wallpaper depicting the inside of a space shuttle. Sports and special events will be broadcast on TVs installed throughout the space, and patrons will have access to pool tables, board games, and a dozen arcade games, including pool, beer pong, Golden Tee, Pacman, Ms. Pacman, Frogger, Galaga, Shoot to Win Basketball, Beer Ball, pinball (Elvis and Pinbot), Target: Terror, Frogger, Donkey Kong, and Pump It Up NX. The game room will offer a special card system that allows for guests’ unlimited play during private events.

Operating hours prior to breakfast rollout will be 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Sunday – Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Happy Hour is offered Monday – Friday 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. In the coming weeks, breakfast will debut and new operating hours will be distributed.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
