First a Comfort One, and now a Starbucks is closing in Dupont But Wait – Tokyo Pearl Japanese Restaurant is Coming Next Door!!

What does it all mean? Let me tell you what it all means. Nothing. It means nothing. In the wise words of Gorgias:

“Nothing exists; Even if something exists, nothing can be known about it; and Even if something can be known about it, knowledge about it can’t be communicated to others. Even if it can be communicated, it cannot be understood.”

Thanks to Will for sending:

“Starbucks Dupont south is closing on December 30th.”

What the hell – first one of the many Comfort One closes and now one of the many Starbucks is closing. Dark days in Dupont indeed.

Now hold on just a second – a liquor license application has just been applied for a Tokyo Pearl at 1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW:

“A Tavern that will serve Modern Japanese food. The licensee is requesting a Sidewalk Café with seating for 62 patrons. They are also requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment indoors only with Dancing and Cover Charge. Interior seating for 24, with a Total Occupancy Load of 83”

Ed. Note: 1301 Connecticut could also include the former Avenue Jack space.

Update: Alas, it is the Avenue Jack space according to the Washington Business Journal and the CityPaper.

STAY TUNED for an exact opening date and for info on who takes over the Starbucks space.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
