Someone is cutting locks at the Washington Sports Club in Columbia Heights

14th and Irving St, NW

Columbia Heights Washington Sports Club cannot catch a break lately.

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to let people know what happened to me at the Washington Sports Club in Columbia Heights so they can take extra precautions. Someone is cutting locks and stealing the content of the locker, at least in the men’s locker room. This just happened to me.

When I finished a 30 minute workout, I came back to the men’s locker room only to find my lock gone and all my cash, driver license, and 3 credit cards stolen. I immediately started receiving calls from my credit cards about large Best Buy purchases. WSC management said the same thing happened a few weeks prior to my robbery. I do not know if WSC management plans on informing members of these recent events. I strongly encourage WSC members to use the most heavy duty lock you can find and do not leave anything of value out of your sight. I guess my lock was easier to cut than others. I always thought my belongings would be safe so long as I kept them locked. Wrong.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
