Boundary Road Closes on H Street but Bar Elena, from Boundary Road co-owner Karlos Leopold and chef Adam Stein, Coming in Late August

414 H Street, NE

From a press release:

“H Street restaurant Boundary Road has closed to transform into Bar Elena, a multi-faceted space that will feature a seasonally-driven New American menu, an expanded bar, and classic arcade games. The new restaurant is scheduled to launch in late August.

Co-owner Karlos Leopold (Nido, Mola) has tapped Adam Stein (The Light Horse, Red’s Table) as the new chef and managing partner. Stein is leading the revamp ahead of his forthcoming project The Eleanor, a 7000-square foot bar, restaurant, and entertainment venue coming to Ivy City in early 2018.

“The aim of the transition to Bar Elena is to focus on all of the strengths that made Boundary Road successful, but with fresh updates that reflect a changing neighborhood and city,” Stein said.

The most significant change to the physical space will be the addition of a small space for games at the rear of the dining room where several nostalgic pinball machines and arcade games will be installed. Two televisions will also be added to the back bar area.
Like Boundary Road, the beverage program at Bar Elena will focus on craft cocktails and a local beer list. Stein said he plans to continue relationships with local farms to supply seasonal ingredients for the updated food menu and partner with even more local breweries and distilleries.

“Bar Elena’s menu was designed to create a more playful atmosphere,” Stein said. “We take seasonality and sourcing seriously, but we’re going to have a little fun with the preparations and presentations.”

The menu features sections for appetizers, salads, sandwiches, shellfish, and large plates. Prices range from $11-$26, and highlights include Head-On Shrimp Cocktail, Clam Chowder Poutine, and a Dry-Aged Beef Burger.

Bar Elena will be open Monday through Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
