Nando’s PERi-PERi, the South African-Portuguese restaurant known worldwide for its spicy flame-grilled chicken, hatches on the booming H Street Corridor on Saturday, February 27th. Nando’s has transformed two vacant storefronts at 4th and H Street, NE, into a colorful and soaring, two-story dining space that captures the youthful energy of H Street and embodies the Nando’s spirit.
During its opening weekend, Nando’s will donate 100% of proceeds to H Street’s Atlas Performing Arts Center, to support community theater and dance, and to D.C. United’s charity partner DC SCORES, the award winning youth development non-profit that offers free after-school soccer and literacy programming to at-risk DC area youth.
D.C. United soccer stars, including goalkeeper Bill Hamid, defenders Sean Franklin and Steven Birnbaum, and midfielders Nick DeLeon and Patrick Nyarko will “take over” the Nando’s grills on Saturday Feb. 27, between 1-5pm, flipping PERi-PERi chicken and greeting fans.
“How exciting to open on the historic H Street Corridor and to share our fiery PERi-PERi chicken with even more Washingtonians,” said Burton Heiss, CEO of Nando’s PERi-PERi USA. “Nando’s always strives to be a good neighbor, and we look forward to partnering with the Atlas Performing Arts Center and D.C. United to benefit the community.”

Nando’s H Street location will feature a 25-foot tall chandelier that is one of the most monumental elements to ever grace a Nando’s interior. Made of 400 pieces of rebar and inspired by the bold beauty of South African beadwork, the sculptural lighting piece dangles through an opening in the top floor and extends down through a large communal table on the first floor.
