I tested a DC friendship idea with 25 guys. Now it’s close to 400 activities.

I got 25 guys in a bar to test a simple idea about making friends in DC. A year later, Choros has several hundred members and close to 400 activities.

A lot of guys in DC are not friendless. They just don’t really have a crew anymore.

That was the idea behind Choros: make it easier for normal guys to find 4–5 other normal guys to do stuff with more than once.

We started with a rough beta app and guys posting plans they wanted to do if the group was already there: hiking the AT and hitting a brewery, going to a pool hall in Adams Morgan, grabbing beers at the boathouse and taking out a few kayaks.

Now there are usually 8–10 things lined up every week: dinners, runs, poker, volunteering, film clubs, museum trips, sports, trivia, Nats games, cocktail nights, and more.

The best part is that it feels less like a social app and more like an actual club. Eventually, “some guy from the app” becomes someone you would text on a Friday.

If you recently moved here, went remote, got out of a relationship, had your old friend group scatter, or realized your calendar got thinner than expected, this might be for you.

Choros is still in its founding-member phase, and we’re looking for guys who want to help build something better in DC from the ground up.
