19 Year Old Woman Shot, 17 Year Old Male Teen Stabbed Yesterday, Both Killed

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 3600 block of Jay Street, NE.

On Thursday, February 27, 2014, at approximately 8:34 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to a call for the report of a shooting in the 3600 block of Jay Street, NE. Upon arrival, they located an adult female lying on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on the scene and transported her to a local hospital for treatment where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 19 year-old Tykia Dickerson of Southeast, Washington, DC.”

On Thursday, February 27, 2014, at approximately 5:14 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to a call for the report of a man down in the 4300 block of Halley Terrace, SE. Upon arrival, they located a juvenile male suffering from an apparent stab wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on the scene and transported him to a local hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 17 year-old Jonathon Adams of Southwest, Washington, DC.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
