Sundevich opened up here in Shaw back in 2011.
Thanks to Kristin for sending this super sad sight yesterday:
“Last Christmas tree on the last day of Sundevich Shaw 😞”

“After February 28, 2026, holiday trees and greenery should be placed at the normal point of collection for trash and recycling. Holiday trees and greenery will be collected as space permits in the truck.”
*Last Christmas Tree in Town (definitely not the last) is brought to you by the Friends of Mizuta Masahide Society. Should we be blessed with any, please send your MAY tree sightings to [email protected] and let me know where you saw it. Thanks!
For those unfamiliar with SUNdeVICH (you can still get some at their Cap Hill location, 601 New Jersey Ave. NW):
“SUNdeVICH is an independent sandwich shop, operating in various neighborhoods, throughout Washington, DC. The original location is in a converted garage, in historic Naylor Court, in the Shaw neighborhood, steps away from the Convention Center.
Our sandwiches are prepared on French style demi-baguettes, baked daily, by a local bakery. The crusty yet chewy bread is a nicely suitable vehicle for a great sandwich. It is the perfect foundation to carry and compliment the wide range of flavors and textures, that comprise each of our carefully crafted creations.
The small nature of the operation, allows for fresh products. There are no walk-in coolers, so space is limited. Menu items are delivered, and prepped daily, in small batches. Once we run out, we close, and do it all over the next day.
We do our best to support local business and agriculture. We do not deal with any large, national distributors. We try to source our ingredients from local people that grow and/or own the businesses, thus forming a solid partnership and a better understanding of our supply chain.
Thanks for stopping by, we wish you a delicious journey!”
