“Juneberry Garage: A New Gathering Place Opens Its Doors
Get ready to sip, snack, and socialize at Juneberry Garage, the latest addition to the historic Walter Reed campus. Partners Josh Saltzman, Chris Powers, Robin Webb, Trent Allen, Jeremy Riley and Gladys Kamau are hard at work transforming the historic auto body shop into a bar and restaurant. But in the meantime, they’ve set up shop to serve seasonal snacks and beverages on the patio from a vintage airstream trailer. Come enjoy the fall weather with some hot cider and eats, as well as a variety of draft beers and cocktails.
Located at 6810 Cameron Drive, Juneberry Garage is the perfect pit stop after a trip to the Whole Foods or a ride through Rock Creek Park. The expansive patio will also be a great place for dogs to bring their owners after visits to the adjacent dog park. This initial offering provides a taste of what’s to come as the restaurant prepares to unveil its full kitchen and bar next year, designed by CORE architecture + design.
The beverage menu features
a wide variety of beers, wine on tap, draft cocktails, and seasonal hot drinks. All of the draft cocktails can be customized to your preferences, whether you’re looking for a non-alcoholic option or a boozier libation. The juneberry and citrus flavors in the Juneberry Soda are great on their own or when combined with your spirit of choice. For the patio-only service, light snacks will be served from the airstream bar along with heartier options from a rotating line up of food trucks and pop-up vendors.
Juneberry Garage’s name is a tribute to the building’s former usage as the military base’s auto body shop and the Juneberry tree. The juneberry tree can be found throughout DC from pocket parks to Rock Creek park, and its fruiting signals the arrival of summer.
“We’ve enjoyed a few post-construction beverages on the patio, and there’s something about sitting out in the sun next to the airstream that immediately transports you,” says Chris Powers. “We can’t wait to share that feeling with everyone.”
Juneberry Garage will be open Thursday and Friday from 4 PM – 10 PM, Saturday from 11 AM- 10 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM – 9 PM.
