“Bar Japonais is arriving soon to 14th Street and is excited to provide a sneak peek of their opening menu. The team behind Bar Chinois, Dean Mosones, Mark Minicucci, and Margaux Donati, are launching the new izakaya restaurant next month.

The French-Japanese restaurant will be open for dinner six days a week with a focus on shareables and a creative drink menu. The menu ranges from inventive and traditional skewers and appetizers to refreshing salads, fresh sashimi and hand rolls, enticing mains and delectable desserts.

Guests can start with a tasty Nōjō Salad with mixed greens, lotus root, purple carrots, golden beets and toasted miso ginger dressing. The menu invites sharing among friends with an impressive skewer selection including the mouthwatering Negima, a wasabi teriyaki chicken skewer and the Unagi, a wasabi teriyaki eel skewer. The appetizers are sure to be a hit with options such as the Pork Gyoza with crispy skirt and toasted sesame ginger soy, and the Tuna Tataki Tartine with baguette, cured lemon rind, piquillo peppers, yuzu persillade and crispy capers. Main dishes include the Katsu Kare with panko crusted pork belly, white rice, Japanese curry, potatoes and carrots, and the delicious Okonomiyaki which is a crispy pork belly, shrimp and cabbage pancake with aïoli, okono sauce and bonito flakes. There will also be a wonderful selection of sashimi and hand rolls.

For dessert, they are rolling out several options that are a captivating mix of both cuisines. The Souffle Pancakes are sure to be a crowd favorite, being one of the only places in D.C. where these are served. They come with mango syrup, seasonal fruits and powdered sugar.

Bar Japonais has also carefully curated a drink list with unique cocktails as well as an extensive wine and sake selection. The refreshing Calpi-Cosmo screams summer with Titos, lime, cranberry, yuzu and melon calpico foam. The distinctive Peaty Luau includes Toki, Lapsang Souchong, lemon, ginger, umami bitters and pork belly.”
