“Weekend track work on Red Line to close two stations, single tracking on Green Line”

“During the weekend of March 9 and March 10, Free shuttle buses will replace trains on the Red Line between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Friendship Heights for repairs to the aerial structure and additional maintenance work. Two stations – Medical Center and Bethesda – will be closed.

The aerial structure between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Medical Center has been identified as a top priority for repairs due to significant deterioration, requiring repairs to the box beams (or girders), the piers supporting the track structure, and additional retrofitting.

In addition, trains will single track between Navy Yard and Anacostia for platform lighting and track maintenance. All other lines will operate normal service with train service available at 96 of 98 stations systemwide, including service every four minutes on average at stations in the downtown core service area served by multiple lines.

Service will operate as follows:

Red Line Free shuttle buses replace trains between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Friendship Heights. Bethesda and Medical Center stations closed. Normal service from Friendship Heights to Glenmont and trains every 8 minutes (daytime) and 10 minutes (evening) between Shady Grove and Grosvenor-Strathmore.

Free express shuttle bus will operate between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Friendship Heights
Free local shuttle bus will stop at all stations – Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center, Bethesda, and Friendship Heights

Green Line Trains single track between Navy Yard and Anacostia. Trains run every 16 minutes between Greenbelt and Branch Avenue, with an average of 8 minutes between Greenbelt and Navy Yard.
