“This one truck has become my nemesis, and it’s driving me crazy.”

“Dear PoPville,

My new condo has these amazing high windows in the bedroom, which is in the back of the building on a corner that overlooks both an alley and a small lot. It’s three stories up and generally pretty quiet. EXCEPT:

Every single night I’ve lived here, the same enormous truck backs up our entire alley (beeping the entire way). It then idles underneath my windows as people from a hotel that abuts the lot (but does not own it) come in and out of their backdoor, slamming the truck doors and unloading what looks to be food. This goes on for about 20-25 minutes, before the truck takes off down the alley again. It usually gives a few short goodbye honks as its doing this, about 10 feet from my head. This all goes on around 2:30am every single night, weekdays and weekends.

I’ve gotten a high-rated noise machine. The truck (especially the honking and beeping) overpowers any setting it has. This one truck has become my nemesis, and it’s driving me crazy.

My questions are these:

1) This truck is far louder and more disruptive than a garbage pickup, and operates at crazy hours. I’ve reached out to DCRA and heard nothing yet, but does anyone think I have a legitimate claim to getting them to somehow stop these dead of night drop-offs? OR persuading them into using an entrance that isn’t right below four residential properties?

2) Failing that, does anyone have any window-proofing solutions? I’ve heard that even the heaviest curtains can be so-so at blocking truck noise, so I’ve tried to look into professional insulation for windows.”

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
