Apparently burlesque shows with jazz was a no go here. How about a three story cigar bar? The Washington Business Journal reports:

“Applications have been filed with both the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration and the Department of Health to bring a Burn by Rocky Patel to 477 H St. NW, a 10,000-square-foot historic former bank branch owned by Douglas Development Corp. Per the liquor license application, Burn, a new three-story tavern with a seating capacity of 250 and a total occupancy load of 350, will operate as a cigar lounge serving food and alcohol. There will also be a DJ and solo performances.”

Stay tuned…

Yes yes hooray this is great! Not nearly enough of these around.

Terrible! It is a gorgeous building and I find it hard to fathom how Douglas Development wants to put such a trashy, out-of-date concept in there. I don’t know what sort of clientele a place like that attracts but I certainly would not want to live near it…

    • I find your disparagement of the Douchebro-American community offensive.

I can already hear the Porsches and Beemers of McLean being revved up by the god awful man-children who will party here with their parents’ money. These are the same people who keep The Huxley and STK in business. They also think Ballers is a great TV show.

I was so looking forward to Burlesque/Jazz coming back to H Street! And I love this building. We already have several vape lounges and shops, plus Hookah. We really don’t need a cigar bar.

This is such a disappointment :(

+1! I was so looking forward to a burlesque and jazz spot! How are cigar bars still a thing?!

  • Gross.

OMG “Burn by Rocky Patel”? Is that a joke? This sounds like something the Aziz Ansari character on Parks and Rec would come up with.

Hyped. Love a good cigar bar. Can’t wait to check it out. Sorry, haters, I know y’all would rather see an organic, farm-to-table, fair-trade, gluten-free deodorant store…

    • hmg

Wellll I think what they would rather see is a burlesque/jazz club, but I’m only sussing that out from reading the article and people’s direct comments about it, so who really knows for sure.

      • H-Streeter

+1 . . . Since they turned Red Palace into a crappy bocce bar (ie. Vendetta) this street his been missing Burlesque and HR57 was poorly run, so we need a good Jazz place too.

  • MVT

I really hope these applications don’t make it through. This is such a waste of this cool building

I can’t imagine how a niche business like a cigar bar/restaurant could fill out a space this large. It’s only my personal opinion, but I know I could never eat somewhere where cigar smoke was billowing around me,

  • LoganRes

Here’s a question for the POP community. If you need a special license to open a cigar bar, why can’t we get a marijuana bar? I’m not a huge cigar fan but I would absolutely love being able to go hang out with other like minded reefer friends and enjoy some drinks and smoke. There’s got to be a big fan base here in this city.

    • ditto

      we’ll get there eventually!

Hell Yea… Now I have an option in the winter months! thats not way downtown. The only downside is the size… I’d prefer a more intimate lounge.
