Last week we learned this Logan Circle Caribou Coffee will become a Peet’s Coffee and Tea in about three months or so.

Looking forward to the Peet’s replacing Caribou. Last time I went to a Caribou and asked for something fullbodied, they gave me something resembling dishwater.

Why does this matter? These big chain coffee places are indistinguishable from one another. It’s not like Peet’s (or Starbucks, or Dunkin Donuts, or anywhere else is exempt from the occasional bad cup. Or the occasional good cup, I imagine! They all promise reliable mediocrity.

As opposed to all the “indie” coffee shops in DC that serve the same mediocre counter culture crap at 2x the price? No thanks to those either. There are very few really good DC coffee spots.

There is nothing mediocre about Peregrine Espresso.

I must have busted taste buds. I too find Peregrine to be mediocre.

The espresso is good, but the layout of the place is terrible and going in there when it’s not empty is such an unpleasant experience. And there’s basically no seating.

So I’d rather hit a Starbucks most days.

Isn’t there a new building going there? I know Abdo got something approved for that spot…

I heard the same thing almost a year ago– that they were tearing down the Caribou and putting up a taller building with retail on the bottom and condos on top.

Remember when this used to be 7-11 and MPD had a desk in the back? I used to live on 15th and one of the cops used to walk me halfway home if I stopped in after dark.

      I do. We lived at 15th and O 86-87.

Went to Caribou in Silver Spring last weekend and a latte and a piece of marble cake cost me over 7$, at Starbutts it costs 5… This is why Caribou failed. The coffee is slightly better at caribou though.

Very relevant Monty Python sketch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T70-HTlKRXo

    “Caribou….Goooooooone.” Very woody…
