Dear PoPville – Where can we find non touristy DC-themed Christmas tree ornaments?

“Dear PoPville,

Where can we find DC-themed Christmas tree ornaments that don’t have a cheesy picture of the White House or a monument on them? I’d love to find some ornaments with the DC flag, the metro map, or some other local insignia on it, but nothing good pops up on Etsy, Amazon, or Google. Anyone have any ideas?”

I’m guessing Pulp at 1803 14th Street, NW should have some. I think 9:30 club also might sell one. Anyone else have recs?

Like, say, an ornament of a bum peeing on a Metro post??

Willow on Upshur has DC themed ornaments that are not touristy.

What makes a metro map less cheesy than a monument? I can’t confirm any of these, but I’d try the downtown holiday market, flea market at Eastern Market, and the zoo/museum gift shops.

Despite Pulp’s window, I’m not sure they have DC themed ornaments, at least I don’t recall. Call first.

I was just in Pulp and Home Rule, and, as I recall, neither had anything particularly DC, sadly. Maybe because it’s closer to the holiday? I might be wrong.

DC culture offers a wealth of “found” items that would make wonderful decorations. You don’t need a store. How about hanging some of those little cups filled with nice red mumbo sauce? Or maybe some hot pink DC parking tickets? Think about it and you can really put the DC in in your holiday DeCorations.

Definitely Willow on Upshur St. NW. https://www.facebook.com/willowfashiondc They have lots of stars-and-bars goodies, including ornaments.

The National Building Museum often has things like that — so it might be worth a call to see what they still have on hand.

Try Pleasant Plains Workshop http://pleasantplainsworkshop.com/, the ACE hardware in Logan Circle by the Whole Foods on P, and maybe even the BakeHouse on T and 14th (they have a few made in DC crafts for sale).

Pulp has DC flag ornaments! And lots of them!

I bought five of these for me and my friends last year the week after Christmas at Pulp. They were half off!

Wake Up Little Suzie, in Cleveland Park?

The gift shop near the White House has ones made out of shredded currency. My foreign friends loved those!
