Church and State Opening Above Fruit Bat on H St, NE Tonight

I had the chance to check out a media preview of Church and State opening at 1236 H St NE above Fruitbat nestled between the Pug and Granville Moore’s. It is a pretty small space with seating for about 40. Church and State comes from the same folks behind Wisdom located at 1432 Pennsylvania Ave. SE. To me it had a very similar feel to Wisdom. Which is a good thing because I really like Wisdom. (More photos to come after the jump.) And the drinks are good too. While I didn’t like the Mai Tai at all, I thought the Moscow Mule (vodka and ginger beer) was one of the most delicious drinks I’ve had in a while. I think this’ll end up being a good date spot for H St, NE.

More photos after the jump.

Fruit Bats always ate the papayas outside our door about nine seconds before they were ripe enough for people to eat. I actually don’t even like papayas, but this kind of enraged me – but isn’t that tragically the world – all odd needless rage.

@ “all odd needless rage” Meh, ‘rage’ is a symptom. It’s the envy that needs to be eradicated.

          Seriously. I love rage.

  • Looks like a really nice place into which I’ll never manage to squeeze my torso.

We checked this place out on New Year’s Eve. It’s pretty awesome.

Is there a bar on H St that couldn’t double as a haunted house if you put up some cobwebs and started playing spooky music?

yes, there are a few. you should go check them out.

Hey pop, is there a way I can donate to your website? I live in NE, and love how you are more current and visually stimulating than our local blog. I’d like to help spend $$$ to keep a blogger up and running, and CURRENT. Is that a good idea?

Thanks for posting, this PoP! I’ve been looking all over for more pictures of the inside of this place and everything else I’ve seen has shown a small portion of the seating area, the drinks, the menu, the confessional, etc., but not the whole seating area, so I was having trouble gauging the size. Thanks again!

  • Rick

Wow, is that an old confessional?
