  • Wow! This is insance! We need “law and order” in DC. We really do. Too bad the DC Police are understaffed.

  • Law and order wouldn’t have prevented this.

  • They should have surveillance video. Wonder what the fight was about. Why is violence a way to resolve disputes.

Update posted this morning on MPD 4D listserv indicates that the victim has died, and that the incident began on the Metrobus. Full text of update reads:

  • Interesting how the MPD was quick to point out that it’s “not related” to other horrible incidents of crime.

But crime begets crime, and when it becomes normalized, then they ARE related.

I don’t know the answer to solving violent crime among youths, but this just makes me feel really sad that this young woman thought stabbing somebody was the best way to resolve an argument.

    • Well, I think it’s fine that they pointed out that it’s not related, given that many people (on this site, for example) begin to speculate that crimes are related if they happen close together (geographically and chronologically).
      .
As to your second point, I don’t think she was thinking about resolving an argument, I think she was only thinking about hurting someone. That’s what is really sad to me.

  • In other sad news, the second victim from last Friday’s shooting on Kennedy Street died last night, which means it’s now a double homicide. Really crappy couple of weeks for Petworth/Brightwood Park.

  • So many “armed” individuals roaming the streets everyday whether knife or gun. I wonder how many armed individuals people unknowingly encounter each day on the bus, metro, restaurants, parks, playgrounds etc….

  • Got to witness the victim being transported by Ambulance by my house, a sad distinctive sound. I feel bad for her loved ones.

I’ve lived in DC 26 years, in Petworth 7. In all my time in DC before Petworth never had much exposure to violence at all. Now living up in Petworth, it’s wearing on me. I watched the victim ride by in the ambulance from the unsolved teen stabbing on Upshur St. Watched the one last night. Multiple unsolved gun homicides and random shootings within blocks. Wish it wasn’t so, but it is, and it is tiring as a resident to have to be exposed to it and stress about it week after week. Hope the community can try better to learn to live in peace, and not solve disputes by killing one another.

  • This is awful, she was so young. Can you please update us if further details come out? I hope they find the woman who did this.
