  • This is a crazy case. They were discussing it on WAMU last night and said that the home owner’s 2009 blue Porsche was missing from the house and found some distance away. Police are asking if anyone saw the Porsche being driven around NW.
It reminds me a lot of the brutal and tragic case of the Cheshire, CT home invasion murders of the Petit family.

  • This is horrible – my condolences to the family. This sounds like the kind of case that will end up on Dateline.

  • For the record, that is one of the most exclusive and expensive neighborhoods in the DC metro area. The house is probably in the $3MM range. Very unusual to have a fire with deaths there.

    • 4.5 million is what I read/heard last night. It’s so crazy…fire in the middle of the day.

    • The Dailymail article has all the salacious details that the local media won’t print. You can google it and find the info. The house is worth $5.5mn, over 10,000 square feet of living space on nearly half an acre. This is a prime property.

  • Were Secret Service there just because of the proximity to the VP’s house? I thought that part was strange and was not sure why they would be there unless they were just nearby and responded first.

    • It’s not strange at all. Yes, the fact that it’s close to the VP’s house and the Naval Observatory is right there too.

  • There was a news report that before the fire started, the live-out housekeeper got a text from the female owner’s phone telling her not to come to work that day. Very suspicious and sad…

  • Yep, this neighborhood is something! The first time I stumbled upon it having taken a trail that led to it from a trail in Rock Creek Park, I was surprised – it is a very hidden neighborhood. Every time I drive down Fulton St and Normanstone Dr, the next street over from Woodland, I’m surprised again.

  • This neighborhood is all residential. Very few on Woodlawn are embassy residences. My parents live two houses down and it’s where I grew up. It is in Cleveland Park and the VP house has very little to do with anything. The secret service is not even aloud to be apart of this case when it happened. Crimes like this are odd no matter where it happens. Most homes in Upper NW cost well into the millions. Anyone born and raised in DC knows this area and the hidden streets are easy to navigate in and out of easily if you know your way.
