Boundary Road Hosting New Columbia’s new Spring/Summer Green Hat Gin Release this Thursday

414 H Street, NE

From an email:

We will be hanging out all night with John and his guys, from New Columbia. We’ll be serving up a few cocktails which we will be crafting using the seasonal gin. We’re thinking of an Apricot Bee’s Knees and maybe a Horchata Ramos Fizz. Also, our cocktails will be incorporating flavors of rosemary and black pepper, as well as blueberry and thyme.

  • Is it just me, or does it sound like these guys are blatantly trying to steal some of the cachet that “Boundary Stone” developed for itself?

    • While the names are admittedly close, that is where the similarities end in my book. I think the food at BR is a little more refined and upscale – appetizers, for example: deviled eggs at BS, tagliatelle w/ braised goat at BR. Their client base could not be more different (BR is quite a bit more expensive than BS). So no.

It opened in February of 2012, 4 months after Boundary Stone, and was therefore in development probably about the same time. It’s pure coincidence, and as the other poster pointed out they appeal to completely different audiences and offer a very different product. The cocktails at Boundary Road are solid (as is the food), they definitely don’t need to “steal” anything from anyone (whatever they’re doing clearly worked in securing dinner reservations from the POTUS).

  • Not at all. Why don’t you try Boundary Road before making an unfounded claim.

We tried the new Spring / Summer blend at the distillery a few weeks ago, it’s great. I actually think it works better in cocktails than the original Green Hat.

  • What is New Columbia?
