It's a little south of campus, but The Short North is my favorite area of Columbus....
Well, let the XXL hirsutes gloat about Vietnam was the highlight of their lives.
I...
If y'all are talking about the CVS near the Georgia Ave.-Petworth Metro station, it's...
??? Lincoln Memorial Bridge????
"The ANC rep (Sylvia Picnkey) most against the re-zoning actually cited this article as...
Stop. Just stop.
DowiSeTriPla!!!
DowiSeTrePla!!!
Oh shoot, I should have never moved out of this area before I could tell people I lived in “SoMo.” Ugh.
… but it doesn’t even make any SENSE!!!!
Terrible. The disease spreads.
Um, no. WHY????? Adams Morgan is already small enough as it is. Why sub-divide it into more neighborhoods?
Some people have way too much time on their hands.
I live in this neighborhood and I will not abide.
I WILL NOT ABIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude, you have to draw a line in the sand.. across which no, but seriously.. SoMo is just dumb. Adams Morgan is the preferred nomenclature.
Stay the hell out of FloRhIde, Lebowski.
this is pathetic…
A poor fabrication. Instead Mayor Grey should be promoting the FRINJ (intersection of Florida, Rhode Island, and New Jersey).
I like it! +1.
Hahahaha. AWESOME.
#cotd
Beautiful! Hey, POP, find out who this person is and give him/her a POP t-shirt!
NoFlo was already taken?
Yep as was SoKal
I think NoFlo belongs to Bloomingdale.
Noflo is my hip hop performance name.
+1
This is a problem posing as a solution looking for a problem.
If it was a distinct neighborhood – it would over time naturally develop a name. Adams Morgan Main Street should spend money on more events like Adams Morgan day, neighborhood decoration and other improvements rather than hiring PR firms to do $hit like this.
It already has a name – Adams Morgan.
I’m guessing they are trying to do this because Adams Morgan has a reputation as a boozy, nightlife district, and they don’t want to be associated with that?
Doesn’t the mayor have anything better to do???????
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hey, if “One City” is going to work, Gray’s gotta give every neighborhood a ridiculous sounding handle. We’re all in this together guys, ALL OF US.
I just call it “The place where I spend a good chunk of my disposable income” between the Blag, Pleasant Pops and DeVinos. What day is this event?
I don’t even live in the neighborhood, but a good buddy does, and I agree, spend a good chunk of money at Devinos and the Blag.
This is getting out of hand. I wonder if anyone imagined, back in the day, that Soho and Tribeca would spawn such a ridiculous urban trend?
Although…if I live north of this area, but more or less on the border of Columbia Heights, does this mean I can get a NoMoWeCoHi banner for my place?
NoMoWeCoHi sounds like the summer camp I went to when I was 10 years old.

Oh wow, a real barbershop! I’m so tired of seeing all those fake ones.
Pardon me while I vomit. Oh right, that’s standard in AdMo, both SoMo and NoMo. Maybe they should call it VoMo.
+1!

If this is true, then I’m creating a new sub-neighborhood in Columbia Heights called “incohi,” which stands for Inner Columbia Heights.
#incohi
Are people who live there “InCoHirants?” MAYBE!
My favorite is still NoPe (North Petworth).
I thought it was NoDu. So if your at Lauriol PLaza, you are half way between NoDu and SoMo? Weird
Please NoMo of these silly names.
No, I vote for SoMo silly names.
Hey, has anyone thought of checking into whether the mayor is getting kickbacks from sign manufacturers????
Makes no sense, but there was a time when this area tried to get people to think it was part of Dupont.
Terrible name, but as a former resident of Vernon Street who never really say I lived in Adams Morgan, there is a point here. Really the hood from Rosemary Thyme up to Jack Rose has a different feel than the rest of Adams Morgan (I would often call the south end of that Dupont, whereas I talk to others who think Lauriol is in Adams Morgan).
When I lived at 17th and U, it was clear to me (and all my neighbors) that everything on the south side of U Street and below was Dupont (or northern Dupont, if you want to be specific in your description). Everything on the north side of U St and above was Adams Morgan. Rosemary’s Thyme to U Street definitely feels more like Dupont Circle than Adams Morgan.
DC is so embarrassing sometimes.
Sometimes?
In response I’m designating the 40 foot frontage of my apartment building West MerHiCo.
Gretchen, stop trying to make “SoMo” happen. It’s not going to happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sir_24duiF4

The press release doesn’t say which day this event takes place. I need to know so that I can leave the city.
As long as WMATA doesn’t officially change the Metro station name from “Woodley Park / Zoo / Adams Morgan,” we don’t have to abide by this new moniker.
Right?
No, Woodley Park is NAdMo.
Can we start calling Park View SpPo?
I live on Lamont NW near Georgia Ave, have always considered it Columbia Heights (bordering maybe but still) I have been corrected with Petworth, and even recently, by POP no less, that it’s Pleasant Plains. Can I at least have …ECo? Yeah, I like it, the new Eco neighborhood, -Georgia Ave between Irving and Park or so.
Vomit. I live on California and 18th and will NEVER use this name (or any of the other ridiculous abbreviations). I am glad to see the recent improvements in these blocks, but again, it’s 3 BLOCKS!!
I think I’ll ride the Green Line from CoHi to WaFro and maybe stop off in GaPla for lunch.
Want to grab some fro-yo in AdMo?
Only if we go slow, eating our fro-yo from AdMo to FoBo.
I suppose you wre just joking about FoBo, but it makes me think “FogBot” would sound cool.
If you want to have a discussion about Adams Morgan Main Street, please talk about how the corrupt organization is headed by two grifters: Lisa Duperier and Chick Brazie. These two have been living off the proceeds of Adams Morgan Day and other so-called non-proifit activities for years. They have no means of support, yet they maintain a condo in Kalorama. They are a blight on the neighborhood and should be investigated.
Do go on….
*grabs popcorn*
I’d like to hear from some AdMo and SoMo residents on this topic as well…
(especially since someone using that name posted a comment a few comments down)
That whole neighborhood already has an alternative name: DAMU
Dupont – Adams Morgan – U street
SO DAMN STUPID!
SoHoMo
17th & P neighborhood, aka ‘SoDom’
I used to live just east of Adams Morgan, on 16th Street, and never knew what to call my neighborhood. Someone should come up with a silly name for that area.
If you lived on the east side of 16th street, that is columbia heights.
if you lived on the west side of 16th, that is reed cooke.
Mike Debonis loved the name, but there’s no pleasing everyone. We discussed it with some savvy local biz in advance, and it has already succeeded in drawing attention to this area. Part of the overall Rediscover Adams Morgan theme, tries to highlight areas that are less well known. Some people think that Florida / U stretch of businesses are not part of Adams Morgan. Not renaming anything — just drawing attention to these great indie biz located there! Already succeeded!
I think it’s more like “there’s no pleasing anyone” with names like that. It just makes you/the hood/the city/your business/whatever look silly and unoriginal, not to mention trying way too hard.
Winning!
I thought you were forced to resign from Adams Morgan Main Street because of accounting “errors”.
Stop ruining our neighborhood. Who cares what Mike Debonis thinks?
And I too recall the lovely “creative accounting” of your nonprofit… sadly I thought your org would be totally shut down. Seems not. Sad.
The Adams Morgan Main Street Group is not part of the city’s Main Street program because financials not in order. But Boss Graham still moves legislation to get these grifters a $100,000 grant. He loves him some crooked non-profits.
Lisa, I hope you didn’t pay anyone to come up with that unoriginal, unnecessary name. Also this ‘creative’ accounting is interesting. Sounds like you shouldn’t be representing Adams Morgan at all
More like Sh*tsho.
SoMo?
No, it’s not.
We need more cool names like swampoodle
I agree – there is very little imagination at work in recent neighborhoos names. I’ve seen an old map with some great old neighborhood names, but it mostly covered the old L’Enfant City. The closest to Adams Morgan are:
Cowtown – east of 16th, above Florida
Hells Bottom – Around 14th & Q
Vinegar Hill – SW of Dupont Circle
On Capitol Hill there were:
Bloody Hill
Blood Field
(Both around 6th St SE between Virginia Ave and the river.)
Fuckin’ awesome. I can get behind these names!
Cowtown is perfect – I never knew what to call that area since it’s too far from both Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan.
http://wamu.org/programs/metro_connection/12/03/23/the_location_from_hells_bottom_to_murder_bay_to_bloodfield
Seriously? And this is supposed to help the image of Adams Morgan, AdMo, how?
No.
Remember when PR firms tried to rebrand Logan / U Street / Shaw as “the Arts District” a couple years ago? I predict this mistake will go away just as quickly.
I’ll change my name to Mary Grace and move to Tierra del Fuego before I refer to that swath of Adams Morgan as SoMa.
*Barf*
Foolish me…all these years and I’ve been calling it “Hohum”
SAdMo
lol. That’ll be the day we start calling Southwest “SoWe”. Just no.
I think we need a new trend… Let’s start naming neighborhoods after famous bums that inhabited them. Adams Morgan, I hearby christen thee ‘Compliment Man Town.’
The Compliment Man! I do miss him, do people know what happened to him?
Call it “the neighborhood I used to spend all my time in before I had kids and even a little while after that…”
BOOOOO down with SoMo. Either it’s Adams Morgan, Kalorama or North Dupont. How about NoDu? Lower Lower Columbia Heights?
Old people think everyone likes to talk in text speech. It’s like how my mom will “txt” “C U L8tr”. But no one really does. Col Higgits represent!!
Ridiculous. The nickname “AdMo” for Adams Morgan is bad enough.
Obviously the “So in “SoMo” is “South”… but I can only assume that the “Mo” must be for “Morgan.” If so, then “SoMo” = “South of ‘The Morgan’,” and I’ve always hated it when people try to call Adams Morgan “The Morgan.”
I wonder how long they kicked around the name SadMo…?
I’m on a secret quest to rename the area around the intersection of 16th and Columbia the Tres Iglesias district. So far I’ve convinced my girlfriend.
I’m on board.
