Remembering – Hae Soon “June” Lim

Grace Deli, 701 H Street, NE

On Thursday we learned of the horrible murder of Hae Soon “June” Lim which occurred in Grace Deli at the corner of 7th and H St, NE. It is very painful to look at but an extremely moving memorial has sprouted at the corner.

CBS reported:

“Lim was just one year away from retirement according to her son.”

Rest in Peace June Lim.

    • I am so, so ineffably sorry, Peter. May you and your family find peace. She was born the same exact day as my father. I couldn’t imagine losing him this way. I hope you find love and support in your community to get you through this.

    • Peter – while I’m not a part of the Capitol Hill community, this terrible tragedy has touched everyone who has heard about. I must agree with the others who posted here – I’m not a big cryer but the story about your mom touched me so deeply. May you be somewhat comforted by the many, many people whose lives your mother touched and who will remember her with fond memories.

    • Peter,
I am sorry I was not able to attend the memorial on Friday to offer my condolences in person. I work next door and I would see your mom every morning to get my daily coffee. Please know that your mom added so much to this neighborhood and she will truly be missed. I will gladly make a donation to the National Association of Victim Assistance in her memory.

Peace be with you and your family.

  • I never knew the woman but that brought tears to my eyes. So tragic.

This made me cry. :( Thank gosh at work early and no coworkers here.

  • That’s just heart-wrenching. I never new her, much less set foot in her shop, but it’s clear that she cared deeply for the community, and vice versa.

  • Wow, this is so very touching and incredibly sad. I am so, so sorry for your loss. This is just monstrously awful that such a sweet, loved person would be taken from the world before her time.

  • Wow, that message knocked the wind out of me. Heartbreaking. :(

Calling my mom when I get home…

Ugh… feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach, I can only imagine how it must be for the Lim family. Heartfelt condolences to you… and swift justice to the cowardly waste-of-oxygen who did this.

  • What a beautiful woman, inside and out. May Ms. Lim rest in peace, and may her loved ones seek comfort in the joy and happiness she brought to the community.

Oh, this is so sad. I’ve been out of town since last week for a wedding and passed this on my way back into town yesterday on the bus and I was wondering what had happened. Thoughts are with the family.

  • Dear Peter Lim and family,

I am sorry for your loss, it is incredibly sad and tragic, for family and friends but also for the community. My prayers to your family during this time. Perhaps you’ll find some comfort in knowing that your mother was a treasured part of this community.

  • Dear Peter, your mom always showed everyone respect and was friendly and professional whenever I went to the store. Words can’t express how sorry I feel for this senseless loss. Peace be with you and your family.

  • I never met this woman but this story really touched me. Rest in peace June.

  • Dear Family

I stopped at Grace Deli most work days for coffee, bagel etc. The beautiful smile from your Mom always helped brighten my day. I am so sorry for your loss. She was a kind, friendly lady.

  • I am friends with the family and they are struggling financially after the Hae Soon “June” was murdered in DC.  She was the sole provider for her husband, and with the house under short sale he is in need of any financial support he can receive.

The Asian Pacific American Bar Association has set up a memorial fund in an effort to support the father.

If anyone can help spread the word about this fundraising effort I know the family will be very gracious.
